Guest Post by Mary Whitney

Today I’m thrilled to have Mary Whitney, author of A Political Affair stopping by to do my first ever guest post.  When the opportunity came up to have Mary as a guest, the election had just ended.  I, like so many other people was like “okay, enough”.  So, I posed an open ended question to Mary, “Pick your poison."  Her response surprised me.  Thanks for stopping by Mary.

The lovely Kim asked me about my poison.  Well, I’ve got a few, but during the holiday season, there’s only one.

I admit it. I’m an eggnog junkie.  There’s always that moment in November when I’m buying milk and I see the season’s first carton of eggnog.  My eyes brighten.  I turn to speak to whoever is around me to see if they want to share in my joy.  Sadly, I most often get the look of “Lady, you’re crazy.”

I know this expression because I see it on my husband.  He thinks eggnog is “nasty” and “disgusting."  You might feel the same way.  It’s okay.  I understand.  Not everyone is a dairy person, and I think you need to have a love of the udder to enjoy eggnog.

Here’s the key to eggnog.  You need to commit.  You need to go all-in.  So don’t drink the “light” stuff.  It’s not the same.  You’re giving up cream for more chemicals and sugar.  Not the best bargain…If I’m feeling guilty about my hips, I mix light and regular eggnog and pat myself on the back for my moderation.

The way I figure it I only have two months at best to enjoy the stuff.  When the last carton is off the shelves, I’m sad, bereft.  The holidays are over, and the grind begins again.

Luckily, Girl Scout cookie season starts up in February!

PS. If you need a little extra decadence, I suggest adding chocolate syrup to your eggnog…

A Political Affair by Mary Whitney

No one expected Stephen McEvoy to fill his father’s U.S. Senate seat at such a young age, least of all him.  The scion of a revered political dynasty, he’s appointed to the Senate after his father’s untimely death.  Now he’s in a tough election battle against an archconservative.  When clever Anne Norwood interns in his office, he dismisses her as another pretty face—until her independent streak catches his attention.  She soon finds him far more interesting than his Senator McEvoy persona.  They’re both too smart to fall for one another, yet they do.  Their relationship becomes a political gamble in a tight election, and all the while, his opposition lies in wait for him to make a mistake.  As Stephen’s past catches up with him, he and Anne must fight for their future.  Their lives mean more than politics, and campaigns—like love—are either won or lost.

About Mary:

Even before she graduated from law school, Mary Whitney knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer.  Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive.  Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together.  A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Washington, D.C., Mary now lives in Northern California with her two daughters and real lawyer husband.

Please visit Mary’s website to find out what else she has going on.
