New Year's Blog Hop!

Happy New Year!

Hello 2013.

Happy New Year!  Hopefully 2012 was good for you. I hope 2013 will be even better.

For me 2012 was a challenging year, to say the least.  But, it also allowed me to grow as a person.  I leaped head first into the blogging world.  Talk about having some major learning curves.  I'm still learning and I KNOW I'm going to make mistakes.  Hopefully, they won't be too bad.  I'm thankful for ALL the many bloggers and authors out there who helped me.

My first Blog Hop of the new year is called the New Year’s Blog Hop (of course). It runs from January 1st to January 6th. There are over 200 blogs participating and most if not all are giving away additional prizes, not including the Grand Prizes.

We're supposed to talk about traditions.  I have to say, growing up my family and I weren’t big on traditions. So, even as an adult I don’t have any, or at least not a lot.

I’m from the South so on New Year’s Day I cook the traditional black-eyed peas and greens; well in my case cabbage. I’m not much of a cook, but I will admit I’m getting better. This is one meal that I’m going to say I’m VERY good at making. (Yes, I have this huge smile on my face and I am patting myself on the back.) It’s also a meal that my family will eat. Well, all except for my youngest. If it’s NOT yogurt, salad or chocolate you can probably forget about her eating it.

For us, New Year’s Day is just a day to lay around the house in our PJ’s and channel surf, since the only thing on TV is college football.

What about you? Do you have any New Year’s traditions, favorite pastimes, or things you just like to do on that day?

I’m giving away a $5 gift card to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Entering is easy. You need to leave a comment and answer the above question. Then, you have the option of increasing your chances of winning by following me on Twitter or Facebook. The winner will be chosen on January 7th, so you have to comeback to see if you are the winner. You will then have until January 9th to contact me to claim your prize.

****UPDATE:  The winner of the $5 gift card from me is Slehan.  She has been emailed and I'm waiting to hear back from her.****

Let's talk about the grand prizes.

We have THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 200 times! (The contest is open Internationally, however the swag pack will only be awarded to a US resident.)

CHECK OUT THESE GRAND PRIZES!

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet

2nd Grand Prize: A $300 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!

To enter to win the grand prize, you must leave a comment with your email address.

  4. Aloha!

We don't have any traditions, but I think my son may have started one this year. He decided that because it was a new year, the world needed a birthday cake. So, we had chocolate cake for breakfast and we both got to blow out the candles. LOL It was fun.

  7. Every year I think I'll make hoppin' john and every year I forget to. I do watch the college football & trade snide comments with other fans. I say if your daughter eats salad, yogurt & chocolage she's hit the standard three food groups and bravo! M. S. Spencer (meredithATmeredithellsworthDOTcom

  58. My mom and I traditionally have our "midnight meal" on New Year's Eve, consisting of appetizers and snack foods, while we wait for the ball to drop. (We used to watch the Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy, but since we cut cable in 2012, we didn't this year.) We sip on sparkling pear juice instead of wine. Then, on New Year's Day, we watch the Rose Parade, and splurge on lamb for dinner (with apple-mint jelly!).
