An Interview with Jess Michaels, author of Her Perfect Match

She will do anything for him…except surrender.

Vivien Manning, the notorious Mistress Matchmaker, is tired. Tired of the parties, tired of the lovers, tired of being her. So she decides to leave London behind once and for all and start a whole new life.

But before she goes, she must tie up some loose ends, so she makes a list which includes one man she's never been fully able to let go:

Benedict Graystone.

Benedict was broken when Vivien broke off their affairs years ago. So when she comes back into his life... and his bed, he isn't certain of anything except the power of their desire.

But as Vivien moves ever closer to disappearing forever, both of them begin to question if the past can be overcome and if love might be the one loose end that cannot be neatly tied up.

Jess Michael’s latest book, Her Perfect Match released on March 5th. Today she stops by to talk with me about her new book and a little bit about herself. Everyone wave to Jess!

Hi Jess, thank you for stopping by to answer so questions for me. Your latest book is Her Perfect Match, which is the third book in the Mistress Matchmaker Series. Are the first two books required readings for the latest book or are they all standalones?

Thank you so much for having me Kim! I’m so happy to be here. I would say that HER PERFECT MATCH could be read if you hadn’t read AN INTRODUCTION TO PLEASURE or FOR DESIRE ALONE (the first two books in the series). Things that happen in the first two books don’t necessarily interfere with the main plotline of the third, but I think readers who already know Vivien’s best friends Lysandra and Mariah probably will enjoy scenes with them more. Still, they’re definitely stand alone.

How would you describe Vivien?

(Rachel McAdams)

Vivien has spent nearly a decade being the most infamous courtesan in London. She’s enjoyed it but things have happened that have made her question whether she is truly happy, especially since the one man she got close to loving, she pushed away.

How would you describe Benedict?

(James McAvoy)
Benedict already fully accepts that he loves Vivien, but he believes she will never let him close again and is ready to move on with his life and his duty to wed a proper lady. When they come back together, they are combustible!

What was your favorite scene to write for Her Perfect Match and why?

Vivien and Benedict have a long history together and have spent a lot of time pretending to be friends after their break-up. Any time they’re in a room together, challenging each other as they act like they don’t care was really fun.

What do you want readers to take away from reading Her Perfect Match?

I hope fans of the Mistress Matchmaker series will be pleased to see Vivien finally meet her match and also get a good sense of closure for the other two couples we met in the first two books. It’s a bittersweet thing to end a series, but I love Vivien and Benedict, so I’m pleased with the finale.

Okay, enough about the book. Sorry, but I want to know about Jess. What was the last thing you Googled?

I actually Bing rather than Google. I get points for every search, which can then be converted into Amazon gift cards. Much better. (smile) I think I last looked for something about a local community college. I was looking for a contact as Event Chair for our local Relay For Life. Not writing related at all, I’m afraid.

I didn’t know you could earn points just by doing searches. That’s pretty cool. What do you enjoy most about writing?

I really like when I get so into a story that I look up and three hours have gone by without my even noticing it. I know I’m in deep then.

If you only had $20 in your wallet, what would you buy?

I think I might go to a movie. I need a break.

Describe yourself Twitter style (140 characters or less).

I think I’d use my actual Twitter description: Erotic historical romance writer. Have also written as Jenna Petersen. Latest release is FOR DESIRE ALONE, Mistress Matchmaker 2. Also a geek.

What’s your favorite food? Food, not dessert or candy.

I’m pretty fond of prime rib. Especially if it’s cooked right.

When you aren’t writing, what can we find you doing?

Right now, probably working on Relay stuff. But I also like to read, hang out with my husband and cats, play with my nephews, walk, play Xbox. I like a lot of stuff.

Thank you Jess for answering some of my questions. It’s nice to get to know you a little better.

Thanks again for having me! (smile)

About Jess:
Jess Michaels began writing full-time in 1999 after being encouraged by her husband to follow her dream. In 2003, she sold her first novella to Red Sage Press, an erotic historical romance about an Egyptian tomb and a very sexy curse. Since then she has published (or has contracted to publish by the end of 2013) 37 novels and novellas under three different pen names with several major publishers, small presses and via self-publishing. Her erotic historical romances have been national bestsellers and won awards from booksellers and readers.

In 2011, she and her husband moved to Tucson, AZ. There she enjoys hiking in the beautiful desert, spending time with her nephews, designing jewelry (which you can buy here), reading and spending time with her awesome husband and cats.
