That sounds really good. You’re upcoming book from Pocket Books is Her Forever Hero, which is part of the Unexpected Heroes series. Tell me about the book and the series itself.
This is the story of Cam and Grace. She’s in trouble, he’s a lawyer who has been in love with her since high school, and there is passion, suspense and a few surprises. In the first couple books leading up to this one, we meet Cam and Grace and see their chemistry from the start.
The heroes books are about 3 orphans who save a kid when they are young, and it leads to them being adopted by Martin Whitman, a wealthy businessman, who gives them a new life.
Oh wow. Is Her Forever Hero a standalone read, or do you need to read the other books in the series?
You can read this all alone. It has a happy ending. However, you will see cameos in the other books of Cam and Grace and of course, Cam’s dad, Martin.
Tell me about Camden Grace.
Cam is a lawyer and the sweetest out of the Whitman boys. Grace is sassy and has a lot of confidence on the outside, but she keeps getting hit left and right and it’s shaking her up. Then she is deceived by people she would have never expected. Cam is her knight in shining armor – whether she wants him to be or not.
Were you surprised by either Cam or Grace?
I was actually surprised by Grace. I wrote both of them in the previous books and had clear expectations of what I wanted her to do. But as most writers will say, a character changes as you write them. Grace ended up with a vulnerability I wasn’t expecting and it made her one of my absolute favorite heroines.
What was your favorite part of the book write?
Wow! You ask some tough questions I love the opening scene with her sitting at the piano so vulnerable and aching as she sits in a home she grew up in that had everything material but nothing emotional. When Cam walks in, her reaction to him shows her true character. That’s what changed everything about this book for me in how she would behave in later chapters.
What do you think Cam and Grace would say about you as their author, creator and possible tormentor?
Cam would certainly gripe at me for not giving him a happily ever after much much sooner. Grace would begrudgingly thank me for making sure the man she loves never gave up on her.
