A Standalone Romantic Suspense Novella from the NYT Bestselling author of the Titan Series...

A Sexy Doctor and a CIA Spy with Amnesia

“Amnesia Allie” should’ve been one of Dr. James Tuska’s normal patients: another CIA asset who they wanted well-cared for and then sent on her merry way. Everyday work at his niche medical practice was never that interesting… until she claimed the impossible. “He’s my fiancĂ©.”

James had never met Allie, yet he couldn’t say no even if he was part of the Agency cover up. Now the Agency wants her dead.

Between the lies and the hiding, the woman who turned the CIA upside down with three words brought him to his knees.

And then Allie disappeared… Nothing would ever be the same.

“Come here.” He dropped his arm around her shoulders and ignored the blanket fortress she’d built. “Get out of your head.”

“I’m not in my head.” But the protest was an obvious lie.

“Allie.” His voice dropped low, and she let him tug her under his arm, snuggling her into place against his side. “If you’re not going to watch the movie, what is it that you want?”

“I can’t tell you,” she whispered.

A funny exchange happened in the movie, but this time, he didn’t laugh. His eyes were focused on her, and his arm around her shoulders made her heart slam against her ribcage.

“You didn’t laugh this time,” she pointed out.

“Wasn’t paying attention to the movie,” he said.

Oh God. With her heartbeat on speed, now her lungs had declared war on breathing. “Maybe the movie was a bad idea.”

He dropped his head close to hers. The warmth of his lips brushed against hers. Her mouth watered for his kiss, and her body liquefied. Begging would be poor form, but the anticipation might be her death. “Please” was about to form as a pout on her lips, when James let their distance evaporate.

Ah, the fireworks. Her pliant lips molded to his as he slipped his tongue into her mouth, teasing a moan from the depths of her. Her lungs had kick-started back to work, but she couldn’t get enough oxygen to avoid the lightheadedness. Wet between her legs, nipples aching for his touch, Allie was drunk on him, and that was just a first kiss. Just the best kiss of her life. She didn’t care that she couldn’t remember another man. Some things, she just knew.

REVIEW

Having read multiple books in the Titan World, I will have to say that this novella did not have much of the guns and ammo type of action that I have come to expect from Cristin Harber.  That’s not to say that Deja Vu wasn’t good, I just expected there to be more gunplay than sexplay.  For this installment, the heat definitely stemmed from the explosive attraction between the hero and the heroine.

Deja Vu is the story of “Amnesia Allie” who lost her memory after she fell from the window of an apartment that she had broken into while doing her job as a CIA operative.  When she awakes in the hospital not knowing who she is or how she got there, she uses her instincts to get to the truth.  To add insult to injury, there is a woman in her room claiming to be her best friend and Allie is sure that isn’t true.  Somehow Allie convinces her doctor, James Tuska who just so happens to work closely with the CIA and Titan, to claim that he is her fiancĂ© so she can get her bearings and figure out what’s going on.  Clearly feeling an attraction between them, James goes along and ends up conflicted over what he should or shouldn’t tell Allie.  Things quickly heat up between them and they find that they are definitely compatible between the sheets and other places.  Everything becomes more complicated as Allie starts to remember bits and pieces of her past life and is desperate to figure out the truth.  Allie goes on the run and quickly gets in way over her head.

I was very impressed with the way that Allie followed her gut and let her CIA training guide her to the truth.  She was fearless and relentless.  I did feel like her and James fell for each other a little too fast but under the circumstances, I suppose I can let that go.  It was also great to see the Titan Group in action although it was in a small supporting role.  Overall, this novella was a fun, albeit short ride.  I’m now curious to see if the other novellas in this series are as good.
