Review: Locked (The Alpha Group Book 1) by Maya Cross

Locked: The Alpha Group Book One

Who is Sebastian Lock?
The bar Sophia Pearce is in doesn’t look like much. The wine is bad and the decor worse. But when a sudden attack of curiosity leads her to sneak past security and into the back room, she discovers something unimaginable. The most lavish party she’s ever laid eyes on, in the most unlikely of places.

But that’s nothing compared to what comes next, to the man she meets back there. Sebastian Lock. Gorgeous, commanding, and radiating charm, he is exactly the sort of silver-tongued rake Sophia has sworn to avoid. Unfortunately, he doesn’t care much for her promises.

Every instinct tells her to run, but the chemistry between them is as inescapable as gravity. Soon, he’s opening her eyes to a whole new world of pleasures, pleasures she never thought she’d enjoy.

There’s just one problem. Sebastian is more than he seems. Between the famous company he keeps and the almost paranoid secrecy of his employers, he’s a puzzle Sophia can’t quite solve, and his insistence on keeping things casual forces her to confront the demons of her past.

Can she learn to trust again? Or will Sebastian’s privacy tear them apart?

The Alpha Group Trilog is intended for readers aged 18 and over.

Locked is the first book in a new erotic romance trilogy by newcomer Maya Cross. It has light BDSM elements that include spanking and restraints. While I can’t truly say that it grabbed my attention from the very beginning, I can say that once it had my attention, it didn’t let it go.

Sophia Pearce is a low level attorney who desperately wants to advance in her career. I mention this because this could be a small puzzle piece to what happens in the trilogy. Sophia and her two best friends are out bar hopping, celebrating one friend’s upcoming wedding. The three ladies end up in a crappy looking bar that interestingly enough keeps having well dressed people coming in and going straight to the back of the bar, never to be seen again. Finally, Sophia has had enough and decides that she HAS to know what’s behind the doors. After managing to sneak past security, Sophia enters a back-roomed bar that is so much better than the one she just left. While inside the secret room, she meets Sebastian Locke.

Sebastian Locke passes himself off as working for a venture capital firm. Sebastian oozes sex appeal and power but he’s also mysterious. There’s something about him that doesn’t add up. After their initial meeting, Sebastian starts to show up in places where Sophia least expects to see him. But I wouldn’t call him a stalker just yet. Sebastian introduces Sophia to the world of BDSM.

Locked is a cat and mouse game being played out between Sophia and Sebastian. The ending of this first book will definitely have you wanting more. It ends with a cliffhanger that actually caught me by surprise. This is a series that will NOT stand alone. You are going to have to read all three books. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next.

  1. I really like the cover for this one and since I'm not a big BDSM fan I like that you mention it only has light elements of it. I think I'll have to give this one a whirl if I can get my hands on a copy :)
Great review Kim, and thanks to you and Maya for the giveaway.

    1. I'm with you. Sometimes the BDSM is TOO much for me. I'm more intrigued with Sebastian. They're going to get their happy ending, but I KNOW Maya has some serious twists in the books. I mean, the ending completely caught me by surprise.
