Fate brought them together. Lies keep them apart. Love could set them free. All they need is to trust in Bear Hearts.

Fate has dealt bear shifter Martin Kruger a rotten hand. His destined mate, Dr. Elizabeth Montrose, is the enemy and suffers from a fatal illness. He’s waited over two hundred years for a mate he might never have the chance to claim.

Elizabeth has long ago given up dreams of love, marriage and children. Her life is her research and now that is gone in a puff of smoke, thanks to the bears of Honey Corners. A tiny spark of hope blooms in her heart when the handsome bear tells her they are mates, but will that instinctual bond be enough to overcome all that stands between them?

REVIEW
The ending of Hers to Bear, the first book in the series, sets up the story for Bear Hearts.  And while this is the case, the books are standalone reads.  I went into reading Bear Hearts really trying to figure out how Elizabeth Montrose and Martin Kruger were ever going to be couple, with the huge obstacle in their path.  If I’m being honest, after reading Hers to Bear, I wasn’t a fan of Elizabeth.

Bear Hearts starts out with Elizabeth’s backstory.  We learn about her and what makes her tick.  After her backstory, we are immediately put into the events that take place in Hers to Bear.  It’s during this time, when I realized that my first impression of Elizabeth was WAY off and that she’s nothing like I thought she was.  In fact, I was surprised by her strength and sassiness.

I found Bear Hearts to be more about Elizabeth and Martin’s journey towards their HEA than anything else.  You get an extremely small suspense element to their story that happens to wrap up the events which transpired in Hers to Bear.  But this was truly a story more about the characters finding love, being happy and discovering that they each can and will have the things they never thought they would get.  When these two aren’t butting heads, they have this wonderful playful nature about them.  Which, I guess explains why they’re mates.

Tamara Hoffa is definitely one of the authors who’s on my auto read list.  I love the characters she creates and the stories she tells.  I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Rating: 4
