Christie Ridgway's Holiday Duet Series

Today is two for one day, with not one but two reviews for books written by Christie Ridgway.  Today it’s all about Christmas and New Year’s with Christie’s Holiday Duet Series.  First up is Must Love Mistletoe followed by Not Another New Year’s.

Must Love Mistletoe

Bailey Sullivan can’t stand Christmas, even though her family’s business is a store specializing in the perfect holiday.  But now her hometown’s chief supplier of rooftop Rudolphs and treetop angels is in danger of going under--and it’s up to Bailey to save the shop.

She has it all planned: She’ll arrive on December 1 and be gone by Christmas.  Plus there’s always spiked eggnog to ease the pain.  But “Humbug” Bailey’s not the only one home for the holidays.  Finn Jacobson, legendary local bad boy turned Secret Service agent and Bailey’s long-lost high-school boyfriend, is once again the boy next door.  Only this time he’s all grown up, and the sparks are flying faster and hotter than ever!

Bailey believes in true love about as much as she believes in Santa Claus.  But as the holiday draws closer, she’s starting to think about one thing she’d like to find under the tree...

REVIEW

Christie Ridgway’s Holiday Duet Series includes Must Love Mistletoe and Not Another New Year’s.  These two books go together with the characters being mentioned in both books.  If you read one, you have to read the other.  (It’s not really a requirement for reading the books, but come on, you’re going to love the characters.)

I will admit I read the books backwards.  I originally attempted to read the books in order but the first chapter of Must Love Mistletoe for me was pretty boring.  I downloaded a sample of Not Another New Year’s and was hooked.

After thoroughly enjoying New Year, I figured I would give Mistletoe another try.  TRUST ME, IT DEFINITELY GOT BETTER!!!  I loved that at the beginning of every chapter, you get a Christmas fun fact or quote.

Must Love Mistletoe is the story of Bailey Sullivan and Finn Jacobson who were childhood sweethearts until Bailey broke Finn’s heart by leaving town earlier than expected for college.  Ten years later they come face to face again.  But this time, a lot of things have changed.  Finn isn’t the bad boy he use to be.  He’s now a part of the Secret Service, currently taking a leave of absence due to an on the job incident.  Things slowly but surely heat up for these two, even as they’re both trying to fight it.

I personally thought Must Love Mistletoe was about discovery; finding out who you truly are and what you’re made of.  The characters in the book are definitely ones you will feel for and root for.  I should also point out that in the midst of discovering and learning about themselves, the main characters have some very hot steamy memorable moments.  On MORE than one occasion I might add, not very much is left to the imagination here.

Not Another New Year’s

Hannah Davis says: “I hate Auld Lang Syne!”

After all, this year brought Hannah nothing but the memory of her wandering fiance marrying someone else behind her back.  Now, sitting alone at a bar in Coronado, California, on December 31, she decides to do something radical...and lets a brooding good-looker take her to bed.  But when another woman bursts into their room much to early on New Year’s morning, Hannah realizes this guy’s more complicated than she thought...

Ex-Secret Service agent Tanner Hart screwed-up, big-time. Hoping to temporarily boot some of the ghosts from his life, he hooked up with this sexy stranger for a hot one-night stand--only to discover she’s the woman he agreed to protect...from men just like him!

But a new year is a time for fresh beginnings. Despite the danger, the hoopla, and the hangovers, if Hannah’s brave enough to risk her heart again--and Tanner’s wise enough to realize he deserves it--maybe this one will be different.

REVIEW

I LOVED this book!

The book was MORE than I expected. There is also a little suspense thrown in.  That only made it better, if that is even possible.

It’s a romance that's a little hot.  Okay, it’s a REALLY hot romance book.  You will definitely need to a cold shower or two.

Hannah Davis is a school teacher from a small town, out for an adventure, after getting dumped by her fiance.  In truth, she's actually gone to Coronado to confront the woman her fiance Duncan married and find out why he choose Caroline over her.  Tanner Hart is a former Secret Service agent trying to live down a mistake which cost him his job with the Secret Service.  He has swore off of women for going on almost a year, until he meets Hannah.

The bain of Tanner's existence is Desiree al-Maddah. Because of her, Tanner's face was shown to the entire world and he had to leave the Secret Service.  In an interesting twist, Hannah and Desiree look so much alike, they could pass for twins.

Not Another New Year picks up just days after Must Love Mistletoe ends.  While it isn't necessary for you to read Must Love Mistletoe before reading Not Another New Year, I definitely recommend that you read each.  Of the two books, Not Another New Year is hands down my favorite.  I can't wait to read more from Christie Ridgway.
