Lizzie Addler is in Rome trying to make a better life for herself and her foster sister. Growing up in the foster system has left her with some scars but ends up finding love unexpectedly with Dante DeFiore. He now runs his family restaurant in Italy because his grandfather is ill. Lizzie shows up at his restaurant due to a TV show that his grandfather signed up for. Dante feels he's doomed to be alone forever and doesn't want to risk falling in love due to some bad history in his family. All works out in the end predictably but it's fun to read about these two along the way and how they finally are able to accept each other.
