I'm not a reader of historical romance. But I am a lover of paranormal romance, I'm partial to a sexy vampire and the blurb for this just grabbed me. Brooklyn Ann has brought her reader a 19th century romance filled with glamour, thrills, emotion, fight and a vampiric hero you can't not fall in love with. Rafael Villar, Lord Vampire of London is by no means perfect, but that is what made him just that...

Cassandra Burton, Dowager Countess of Rosslyn has dreams of being a Doctor, but with it being frowned upon because she is a woman, she's self-teaching. And stealing bodies from graves to practice on. When she's caught in the act, she doesn't expect to be held captive by a sexy Vamp, nor does he expect to find an intelligent, determined and inquisitive lady who sees beneath his scars and disfiguration.

I loved Cassandra, to find a strong heroine determined to follow her heart and achieve her goals in this time period, despite the obstacles was a real treat and the fact that Rafe supports her made him even more sexy in this girl's eyes. Whilst hard to judge at first and with a gruff exterior, as he falls he softens and he and Cassandra had a superb chemistry, bringing emotion, intimacy and passion. And with the accompanying storyline of Rafe's second-in-line fighting for his title of Lord, rebellion and bloody battles brought action, making it even more captivating.
Brooklyn Ann is a new author to me, but having read Bite at First Sight, I'm off to grab the first two books in this series. Her style is fast-paced yet flies and whilst it's clear characters from the earlier books make appearances, this can easily be read as a standalone; rather than feel I've missed something, it's simply intrigued me as to their stories.
