He bet on logic. She bet on love.
Romance author Seven Michaels believes in love to her very core. She has to--not only for herself, but for her readers. So when luxury salesman Blake Turner insults not only her books but the people who read them, Seven's ready to throw down. How dare a playboy like Blake insinuate romance lovers are full of crap?
He wants proof? Fine. She bets Blake she can make him fall for her by using the rules in her latest novel before the end of the convention, or she'll denounce love in front of all her fellow authors and fans at the Romance Lovers Convention ball. A dangerous game to be sure, but humiliating Blake is worth the risk.
But when Seven realizes she's the one who's being seduced, she's no longer sure who is playing whom...or whether she'll have a career when the bet is over.
REVIEW
For years, romance authors have been looked down upon by other authors and non-romance readers. MK Meredith has taken those close-minded criticisms and turned them into Seducing Seven.
Seven Michaels and Blake Turner are both in Las Vegas to attend conventions for their jobs. Seven is a romance author who has just released Rules of Seduction. While her love life doesn’t exist outside of her BOB, she believes in love and is open to it. Blake is a high end luxury salesman. His father has taught him to never settle, thus he thinks love is fleeting and simply doesn’t exist.
When Blake saves Seven from an uncomfortable situation, the attraction is instant. Once Blake discovers what Seven does for a living, he insults her and all romance readers. Seven isn’t one to back down from a challenge. She bets Blake she can make him fall in love with her by the end of the weekend, using the rules from her book. All’s fair in love and war, so let the games begin.
Being a romance lover, my biggest issue with the story was the bet itself. I couldn’t believe Seven would actually risk alienating authors and readers by saying her book was nothing but a fraud, written out of desperation for bored, insecure women. What? Ummmm, NO! (Blake, is an arrogant jerk to even suggest such a thing.)
For whatever reason, I wasn’t overly invested in or truly made a connection with Seven and Blake. I did like them as well as the other characters in the book. What I loved was the way they pushed each other's buttons. Neither is willing to back down from what they believe, but they are also surprised by their feelings. To paraphrase the book, I love the way MK has managed to weave two very different people together and have them play off their differences. After all, that does make for a good romance.
I’ve said this before, there’s something about MK Meredith’s writing that draws you in. What that something is, I have no idea. I just know I have to know where she’s taking the characters and readers. This is the second book I’ve read by her. And while my reviews aren’t glowing, MK manages to keep me wanting more.
Seducing Seven mixes humor, passion, friendship, and love to bring a story that’s entertaining.
