REVIEW
I’ve read almost all the books in the Shillings Agency series and I can honestly say His Best Mistake has a very different feel to it.
Mark Matthews and Daisy O’Rourke are no strangers to loss. Each have lost the loves of their lives in horrible ways. Each have closed off their hearts to the possibility of love again. Both feel the price of opening themselves up comes with too great of a cost. But if they are willing to take a chance, they will have a bigger payoff than they ever imagined.
I loved the opening scene of His Best Mistake. Picture it, a guy walks into a bar, sees a girl and approaches her, not knowing that she’s his future. “I came over to talk to you because, to be honest, you looked a little sad. And I hate seeing women sad.” Mark. Mark. Mark. Those two lines had me falling hard. Coupled with the fact that he’s a single father to a three-year-old little girl and I was a goner. This chance encounter between Mark and Daisy is the set up to a romance and relationship neither wants, but at times will find themselves fighting hard for.
With the opening sentence, you get a sense this story is going to be heart wrenching. Diane Albers has managed to take Daisy, Mark, and readers on an emotional journey, but at the same time has managed to add a little bit of humor. In classic Diane fashion, these two heat up the sheets. If you’re looking for a story that’s going to take you on an emotional ride and leave you satisfied this is the story for you.
