A reluctant traveler. A stunning translator. Will being trapped in a failing resort seduce more than his money?
Caleb Doyle has few regrets about leaving the family business to follow his dreams. But when a heart attack puts his brother out of action, he's forced to save the Doyle's virtually bankrupt hotel business. He reluctantly travels to Thailand to evaluate a last-chance resort, though getting stranded with an enchanting local wasn't part of the plan…
Malee Wattana yearns to reunite her family all under one roof. But her play-it-safe lifestyle has always hindered her ambitions. Ignoring her fear, she risks it all to convince the handsome Canadian that the property has potential. When a landslide forces them into close quarters, she sees a whole different potential emerge…
With secrets and surprises all around them, can Caleb and Malee overcome their baggage to claim a suite at love's best hotel?
He raced around and came to skidding halt when he saw her sitting beside the car in an enormous mud puddle. Reaching out a hand to help her up, he thought he’d braced himself, but as soon as Malee put her hand in his, he slipped and fell into the mud beside her. The splash he created splattered mud on her top and face. Expecting a hiss of disapproval, he was surprised when she burst into laughter.
“Welcome to Thailand,” she finally managed to say when she got control of herself.
“So far, it’s been a very interesting country. It is definitely different from my other business trips,” he said. “I usually leave the mud bath for the last day.”
Her face was alight with joy, until she looked up at the sky and a hint of fear clouded her chocolate-brown eyes. The answering clenching of his stomach wasn’t a welcome development either. “We’d better get cleaned up. We have about half an hour of daylight left.”
She flipped over to her hands and knees and Caleb had to briefly close his eyes as her firm ass put him in mind of other activities. Halfway out of the puddle, Malee’s hands lost traction and she ended up face first in the mud. He stifled a laugh, only to have the same thing happen to him. By the time they’d made it to the grass, there wasn’t a clean spot on them.
He risked standing, then helped Malee to her feet. She kept hold of his hand and tugged him around the back of the hotel. Rather than head for the door where they’d gained entrance earlier, she kept walking down a cement path. The sound of crashing water became louder until she pushed aside a banana leaf and they stood next to a small waterfall.
She let go of his hand and walked around the pebbled edge of the pond before wading in. “It’s deep enough if you want to jump,” she said. “Just aim for the middle.”
That was too good an offer to refuse. Besides, jumping in would get the mud off quicker. “Holy shit!” he yelled as soon as he broke the surface of the water. “It’s freezing.” His balls were attempting to retreat into his body.
Malee laughed again. It wasn’t a coquettish titter aimed to seduce. Her mirth was genuine and pure. “Sorry, didn’t I warn you?”
She waded in up to her waist and disappeared under the water. He could see her scrub at her face and hair. When she surfaced again, her teeth started to chatter. She swam toward a rock and hauled herself up. The mud was gone, but the water made her clothes cling to her shapely body. Thank God the water was so cold—it numbed his reaction to her. Or so he hoped. There’d be no hiding his erection in these wet clothes.
Malee strode over to a stack of plastic pails, kicked them over, then jumped back. “Good. I didn’t have to evict anything.” She separated the buckets and passed two to him. “We’re going to need water up at the hotel.” She waded back into the freezing pool and filled her two pails before he could move.
No water, no electricity, a loaf of bread and a few other basic provisions that they’d luckily thought to pick up in the village … it was going to be a hell of a camping trip. At least he had a few changes of clothes. Malee only had those she wore and they were soaking wet. He waded into the pool and filled the buckets she’d given him before he began to envisage ways of warming her.
She was already halfway up the path back to the hotel before he’d scrambled from the water. “Be sure to check for leeches when you change your clothes,” she called over her shoulder.
Wonderful. So far, the only thing to recommend this place was the sight of Malee’s firm ass climbing the stairs ahead of him. They couldn’t put that on a hotel brochure.
