Nurse to Forever Mom is the fourth book in the Single Dad Docs series. This standalone is written by Susan Carlisle and mentions characters from the three previous books.
After growing up with a mother who was consistently getting married and divorced, Stacey Ryder doesn’t believe in marriage or allowing herself to get close to anyone. That’s why being a traveling nurse suits her just fine. She travels the world and generally works in one place anywhere from a month to a year, and then it’s off to the next assignment. Her current assignment takes her to Maple Island, Massachusetts and the Maple Island Clinic, a clinic formed by a group of single father doctors.
Dr. Cody Brennan is one of the clinic’s co-founders. Cody is a single father to two little girls. Since his divorce from his ex-wife, he has been trying desperately to make up for the mistakes of his ex and himself. Cody doesn’t date and when he isn’t working tries to spend as much time as possible with his girls.
When new nurse Stacey dares to show up in his operating room and question him, Cody can’t help but be intrigued. When Stacey starts to help with small tasks involving the girls, Cody starts to wonder if maybe Stacey is ready to stop traveling the world, put down roots, and become a member of his family.
One thing I love about Susan’s books is that they aren’t complicated. In Nurse to Forever Mom, Stacey and Cody both have baggage but that baggage doesn't weigh the story down. They are both easy to like. In fact, I really enjoyed watching them interact with each other and the girls. Susan’s description of Maple Island makes me want to visit the place. The story ending was perfect and will leave a smile on your face.
