All Haley Bowman has ever wanted was her One True Love. But now, with her cousin getting married and Haley back in her small town, the pressure is on. Good thing she’s got a foolproof Kiss List, full of potential OTLs. Her parents knew they were soul mates at their first kiss, so surely Haley will know the same. All she needs to do is…well, kiss each of these guys…

Enter Max Gallagher: bane of Haley’s existence, her nemesis since childhood, and, unfortunately, as a local, her way in with all the guys on the Kiss List. Max wants nothing to do with love and certainly nothing to do with Haley, but he can clear the way for her to get to know the guys on the list. Of course, he wants something in return: to be made a partner in Haley’s family’s business. One kiss for relinquishing her hold-out vote on Max.

But the more time Max and Haley spend together, the clearer it is that there’s a paper-thin line between love and hate. Max will have to decide between the job he’s always dreamed of or the girl of his dreams before his fate is sealed with someone else’s kiss.

The Kiss List marks my first time reading Sonya Weiss. Admittedly, I had no idea what to expect. I know I definitely wasn't expecting this story to be a romantic comedy. But that is definitely what this was.

Haley Bowman and Max Gallagher have been enemies since they were in kindergarten. Twenty plus years later, nothing has really changed. Haley has been back in her hometown of Cherry Creek, North Carolina for a couple of weeks now. She's been trying to lay low after getting dumped by her actor boyfriend, losing her PR job, and her apartment and also starring in a viral video showing her pushing her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend. Haley re-emerges at a bar in her hometown to watch a football game. Unfortunately for her, Max is also there. An altercation ensues, resulting in Haley being arrested. “This is your fault, Max Gallagher!” But have no fear, Max eventually comes to spring her.

Haley now finds herself as a bridesmaid in her cousin Suzie's upcoming Valentine’s Day wedding. A cousin she isn't necessarily really close to and one who has harassed Haley about not having a plus one for her wedding. Haley declares, “Before the year is out, I'll be in a relationship.” If only she knew where to start. As part of her bachelorette party festivities, Suzie has a local fortune-teller appear. Celeste, the fortune-teller tells Haley, “You will find your future love by looking back to your past.” Haley takes this to mean that one of the guys she dated before she left town is her soulmate. Haley has the belief that once she and her soulmate kiss she will know that he is the one. Haley eventually writes up a “kiss list” and enlists Max to help her reconnect with the guys on the list.

Haley, in essence, uses Max as her wingman. Never in her wildest dreams does she expect to see Max in a different life. But spending time together working at, Bowman’s, Haley's family's Christmas business and plotting out dates with guys on Haley's list, Haley and Max start to see each other in a new light.

There's so much more to The Kiss List than I'm even saying. I loved the characters of Max and Haley. What I didn't love was the situation with Max and his family. Honestly, just thinking about it gets my blood boiling. One of the fun things about this story is that Max and Haley are clearly adults, in their 30s, but at times their back and forth banter is just so juvenile, you would think they're still in middle school. At times, the story reminded me of the movie Runaway Bride. I'm excited that The Kiss List is the first book in the Love List series. I would really love to read a story about Wynne, Max's younger sister and his friend Ripley being together.
