Librarian by day, cursed witch by night.
Selene Blackstone spends her days camped out in library corners with her nose glued to books. In a town like Brimrock, where she’s an outcast, she prefers her book friends to her real-life enemies. They’re a lot less judgmental. The rest of town believes she descends from a family of witches—including her evil witch grandma, Luna. In this case, the truth is stranger than fiction. She is a witch, and she’s cursed for all of eternity. Good thing her to-be-read list is pretty long…
Prickly Paranormal Investigator Aiden O’Hare speaks two languages: sarcasm and more sarcasm. He travels the country—and sometimes even the world—investigating strange phenomena with his best friend, Cory. Their investigations bring them to a cozy New England town called Brimrock, home to fabled evil witch Luna Blackstone. Armed with his dry wit, his bibliophilic love for books, and far too much free time, he’s determined to find out just what happened to Luna…
When Aiden meets Selene, he decides he must get to know her. When Selene learns Aiden is in town investigating her grandma, she knows she must stop him. He’s out to expose the truth. She’s out to keep it a secret. Neither expects to fall under each other’s spell, but sometimes love is supernatural.
Hi Mila. Welcome to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. How are you today?
I’m great! October is one of my favorite months, and so is the fall season in general. I’m really enjoying the cooler weather!
Cooler weather is always good. You are a new to me author. What can you tell me about yourself?
I’m a romance author who writes love stories featuring women of color. At the moment I write contemporary and now paranormal, but I plan on eventually exploring other subgenres too.
I love the sound of your latest book, Black Witch Magic. What can you tell me about it?
It’s a BWWM paranormal romance about an outcast witch librarian and the prickly paranormal investigator who is investigating her and her family. That’s a mouthful to say, lol.
How did you come up with the idea for the book and the character names and town?
Most of my ideas come at random. To be honest, this book was a mashup of things I like. I drew a lot of inspiration from pop culture like Sabrina: The Teenage Witch and Buzzfeed Unsolved. Also, of course music, which is always a big source of inspiration for me.
Tell me more about some of the characters readers will meet in the story, including Selene and Aiden.
Selene is my female protagonist. She’s a witch who works as a librarian. Years before she was even born a curse was placed on her and her family, and we follow her as she tries to deal with the repercussions the curse has on her life.
Aiden is the male protagonist. He’s a paranormal investigator who travels filming his show Paranormal Hunters. He’s very sarcastic, not that touchy feely, and values fact and logic over anything else. He’s in town to investigate Selene and her family, who are rumored witches.
There’s a lot of side characters, but probably my favorite to write was Selene’s best friend, Noelle. I feel like Noelle is such a fun character. She’s the blunt best friend who tells it like it is, but also has a soft heart deep down.
What are some fun facts about Black Witch Magic?
One fun fact I can think of is that this book took me longer to write than any of my others. This one was two years in the making. The story and even characters have changed so much over time. The original version was set in Louisiana and Selene wasn’t Selene, nor was she a librarian.
Oh. That’s very interesting. Can you tell me about one of your favorite scenes from Black Witch Magic and why you count it as a favorite?
I have several from this book, but probably the one I’d rank as my most favorite is Selene and Aiden’s first real date. Without giving away too much, it’s a disaster and I loved writing their reactions to how it goes so horribly wrong.
I can understand how that could be a little fun. What’s your favorite part of a romance story to write?
It’s a toss-up between the meet-cute and the first kiss. Both are such big moments and you definitely want them to be special!
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?
Oh, gosh…I always have so many projects going on at once. Right now, I’m in the editing phase of my upcoming holiday romance, North Star Angel. I’m also working on book two in my Wild Horse Ranch series, Taming Wild Horses. And there are a couple other things I can’t yet announce yet! 😛
Mila, thank you for taking the time to answer some questions for me.
No problem, thanks for having me! 😀

Mila Nicks has a thing for romance. Chick lit, chick flicks, you name it, she’s there. She’s all about basking in a quality, well-told love story. It’s why she’s decided to use her passion for writing to pen love stories featuring women of color.
When she’s not engrossed in all things romance, she’s probably out shopping, sampling food off of someone else’s plate, or hanging with her feisty and dangerous pet chihuahua, Zayden.
