From Harlequin Desire: Luxury, scandal, desire—welcome to the lives of the American elite.

A Nine-Month Temptation is the first book in Joanne Rock’s Brooklyn Nights series. The series is about three creative women living in a Brooklyn brownstone, becoming friends, and trying to become successful in their chosen careers.

In A Nine-Month Temptation, passion and love are no match for a closed-off widower and a divorcee who initially fight their instantaneous attraction. After a miscarriage and divorce, Sable Cordero moves from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to New York, to pursue her dream job of being a fashion stylist. She lands an internship in Manhattan with Zayn Designs, working with up-and-coming designer Marcel Zayn himself. Marcel is the powerhouse behind the designs, but his older brother Roman is the mind behind the business.

Roman Zayn spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where he’s the CEO of Zayn Equity, a global wealth management company founded by his grandfather. Things between Roman, Marcel, and their grandparents have been strained for years. However, Roman uses his position at the equity firm to help Marcel and his dream of being a designer and owning his own studio and flagship store come true.

Roman makes a surprise late-night visit to his brother’s studio expecting to find Marcel jamming to music. What he finds instead is Sable all alone and dressed in a dress made for sin. He thought keeping his distance from her for the last three months would provide enough time for him to curb his attraction to her, but he couldn’t have been more wrong. Sable is equally attracted to Roman. They both acknowledge their attraction and agree to one night together, with no expectations or strings attached. Two months later, Sable is shocked to discover she’s pregnant. When she tells Roman, she’s surprised by his response and his following actions.

A Nine-Month Temptation wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I liked the characters of Roman and Sable. Their passion was undeniable. I enjoyed the flow of the story. I'm just not sure I bought into Roman's realization he was in love. It seemed a little fast and/or forced. I loved that readers were introduced to the future heroines of the Brooklyn Nights series. I’m definitely looking forward to reading their stories. I’m disappointed that we probably won’t see any more of Marcel. He’s really a great character. A Nine-Month Temptation deals with death, the loss of a soulmate, infertility, and miscarriage. But it shows that life goes on and that love finds you, even when you aren’t looking for it.

~ FAVORITE QUOTES ~

“Wealth doesn’t solve every problem. It doesn’t even begin to make up for a lack of love.”

“Anyone could throw around words like “love,” but only special people backed up the idea with actions.”
