Tasked with granting a sick child a special Christmas wish, ER nurse Emma Trudeau can think of no better person to help her pull it off than wealthy New York cardiothoracic surgeon Thad Markson. His reputation as a real-life grinch precedes him, but Emma is undeterred! And as much as Thad tries to resist Emma’s persuasive charms, it’s not long before she begins to melt his icy heart—with a magical kiss…

If someone were to ask me who my top ten favorite authors were, Traci Douglass would make the list. I like her stories because she always manages to get her characters to burrow themselves in my heart. I’m discovering that her Christmas romances are my catnip. If I could read one every single month, I would be a happy girl.

A Mistletoe Kiss in Manhattan was inspired by How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Jim Carrey version is my favorite. This story gave me all the Grinchy vibes with the city’s top cardiothoracic surgeon Thad Markson stepping into the Grinch role. Like the Grinch, Thad has been hurt in the past and is afraid to be vulnerable and show that he is caring and truly has a heart of gold. ER nurse Emma Trudeau is definitely Cindy Lou Who. She sees the good in people and isn’t afraid to try something, even when the odds aren’t in her favor.

In A Mistletoe Kiss in Manhattan, Emma is tasked with organizing the wish for the winner of the Wish Star Program. The program grants a wish to a child who is in the hospital's pediatric ICU. She feels that if she pulls this off, she could move to the top of the list for the next promotion in her department. She also thinks that in order to pull this event off and make it extra special, she needs Thad to be her partner since he has connections she can only dream of. The hospital chief of staff and HR director are skeptical of Emma choosing Thad, known as the Fifth Avenue Grinch to be her partner. But she assures them everything will be fine. The only problem is that while they both work at Manhattan West General Hospital, they don’t actually know each other. And she hasn’t even approached him about working on the event with her. Emma is outwardly confident that everything will be just fine. She’s not prepared for Thad to say no to her request. In fact, she refuses to take no for an answer.

Once Emma proves she isn’t going anywhere and helps Thad out, the two start working together. Along the way, they make discoveries about each other and their hearts get involved. “So help him, he’s feeling.” Emma and Thad work well together and as a couple, you can’t help but root for them. I loved A Mistletoe Kiss in Manhattan from beginning to end. As with Thad, my heart grew and tears appeared in my eyes. This story is definitely a bookshelf keeper.
