Sometimes, it takes more than mistletoe to find true love.

Reyna Star, owner of North Star Private Car, is drawn to Hawk Swan’s rugged good looks when she picks him up for his holiday party weekend, but she knows his type, and she’s not interested. However, she does pocket more than a generous tip from her passenger—when one of Hawk’s companions mentions the Berkshires as the perfect place to go skiing, Reyna decides to spend Christmas there with her teenage daughter, Lily, and rebuild their bond.

Custom woodcrafter, Julian “Hawk” Swan is tired of the single life and wants to settle down. When Reyna arrives in Haven Creek, he seizes the chance to fix her first impression of him. Attraction burns bright between them, but there are those not warming up to their relationship—Lily is acting out, Hawk’s cousin worries about potential hardships in their romance, and even Reyna’s ex is too close for comfort. Plus there’s Reyna’s business, firmly entrenched in Miami.

This Christmas, can Reyna and Hawk rise above these holiday hurdles and build a lasting future?

Michele Arris is a new to me author. I’ve seen a few of her books around and thought about reading some. I love Christmas romances, and when I saw Above the Mistletoe I knew it was time to move Michele from my one-day author read list to authors I’ve read list.

Reyna Star is twenty-nine. She’s the mother of a thirteen-year-old daughter named Lily. She’s also the owner of a small luxury car service in Miami. Hawk Swan is an easy-going, laidback thirty-five-year-old custom woodcrafter. He lives in Haven Creek, a small town located in the Berkshires, surrounded by his family whom he loves immensely.

A weekend trip to Miami for a friend’s party has the two crossing paths when Reyna fills in for another car service. There’s a spark of attraction between the two, but Reyna has a strict rule about dating clients, plus she thinks she knows Hawk’s type. She overhears Hawk, his brother Noah, and their cousin Asher talking about snow in the Berkshires and she files the information away thinking one day she might visit and take Lily.

Reyna is planning on having a low-key Christmas alone, as Lily is spending the Christmas school break with her father. But when Blake gets called to work for an emergency, Reyna steps in to make sure Lily has a nice Christmas vacation. The two set out for the Berkshires and Haven Creek, not knowing that Hawk lives there.

Hawk is surprised to see Reyna. To say he’s happy would be an understatement. He finally gets Reyna to give him and them a chance, only for Lily and Blake to make their unhappiness clear. It’s going to take some hard truths, tough love, compromise, and a little faith for these two to work out.

I didn’t love Above the Mistletoe like I was hoping I would. I definitely loved Hawk, his sister Tess, and Asher. My issues were with Reyna and her rollercoaster of feelings and emotions. However, if I’m being honest, I think her feelings and emotions could be and are real and honest coming from someone in her situation. Lily was also, in my opinion, an authentic character.

With my love of the Swan family members, I’m really looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
