A holiday road trip with her neighborhood nemesis? This is so not the Christmas that Harper Campbell had planned. But when Harper's widowed grandfather up and runs off with Liam Young's irrepressible godmother for a madcap Christmas adventure, Harper's hauling Liam along with her to track down the truant pair whether he likes it or not. And if being stuck together in close quarters leads to things getting heated, so be it. Until sparks of a different kind start to fly…
Harper snatched the phone from him and held it up to her ear, and when the part with the background noise started, her eyes got wide and excited. “I know that. That sound, those clock chimes. I know where that is. This is good!”
Liam felt a fleeting moment’s hope that she would run right out his door as suddenly as she’d come pounding on it earlier and leave him in peace. Maybe—since no one was looking—he could even see if there was any part of that Danish that was salvageable. He liked Danishes.
But instead, she grabbed his arm and tried to propel him toward the front door. “Come on. You’re coming with me to fix this.”
He resisted, which left them in an odd sort of tug of war situation. “What? I’m not going anywhere.”
“Oh, yes, you are. It’s your crazy aunt who did this!”
“Godmother,” he corrected somewhat sanctimoniously. “Unofficially. And for Pete’s sake, I’m in my pajamas.”
She took a moment to absorb what he said, then switched directions and began trying to pull him toward his bedroom.
“Harper—”
“Listen,” she growled. “In three minutes, we are leaving this building together in my car no matter what you have on. So, unless you want to drive through this city in your socks and underwear, I suggest you dress fast. Got it?”
She was too much. “Lady, I’m not going any—”
“Look in my eyes and see if I’m kidding.”
He wanted to scoff, he really did. After all, he was quite a bit taller than her, in pretty decent shape, and no lightweight. But when their eyes locked and he saw her nostrils flare, it suddenly seemed wiser to him to comply.
He was the first to blink. “Three minutes?”
“Two and a half now.”
Liam bolted into his bedroom.
