Release Date: February 27, 2024

From author Lena Gregory comes a hunt for more than just treasure…

Danika Delany is loving running her uncle’s old fashioned malt shop on eastern Long Island and putting her own modern spin on the treats they serve. Life is finally looking up for her! That is, until local billionaire Maxwell Crumbholtz dies and leaves his fortune in the form of a treasure hunt. Chaos descends on Watchogue, and Dani and the rest of the gang from the Coffee & Cream Café join the melee when they enter the contest, try to decipher the clues, and go in search of the treasure. But Dani digs up more than she expected when she discovers a dead body buried instead of a treasure! To make matters worse, a witness claims to have seen Dani at the scene of the murder. Now, instead of a four-billion-dollar payday, Dani is on the hunt for a killer.

Hi Danika. Welcome back to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. How are things going with you?
Thank you so much for having me. I always love visiting with you and your readers. Things are going well, thank you. I’ve finally gotten the Coffee & Cream Café open and running. It has even become somewhat of a gossip hot spot, which by Watchogue standards means it’s successful. My newest (and only) employee, Eli, is not only working out well, but has become a close friend. He’s even roped me into participating in a treasure hunt, which I’ll talk more about later.

When we last spoke, you weren’t quite sure how things were going to go between you and Luca. Also, there was Jake. So… Are either of these men a love interest?
I guess that depends on your definition of love interest. If you mean, am I interested in either of them, I’d have to say yes. To both. What’s not to like about two gorgeous men who are also kind, fun, and compassionate?

Unfortunately, me being interested seems to be about as far as I’ve gotten with either of them. My belly still flutters every time Luca is around, but it flip-flops whenever I run into Jake. Though, if I’m being honest, far more people seem to be Team Jake. I guess I’ll just have to be patient (not my strong suit) and see how (if) it all plays out.

Oh. This sounds very interesting. Double Scoop of Murder finds you back to trying to clear your name. Has your past sleuthing helped you?
My past sleuthing has definitely helped me learn to mind my own business and keep my nose out of things that don’t concern me. Unfortunately, I seem to keep forgetting that lesson. So, once (or twice) again, I keep ending up in trouble. One of these days, though, I think that lesson is going to stick.

I don’t know how your creator, Lena Gregory, does it. She has a copious amount of cozy mysteries under her belt, plus she writes inspirational romantic suspense, and she writes young adult fantasy (Realm of Ice and Shadow was so good. Thank you!). What do you do to get her to focus on you and your stories?
I don’t know how she does it either! I do know she sometimes gets very overwhelmed. I have to admit, sometimes I feel a little neglected when she’s working on so many other things. But when I want her attention, I just sneak into her mind and plant a seed she can’t ignore. Then I remind her how much she loves my world and my series, and just like that, I have her full focus again.

I love that. Let’s say I was to walk into Coffee & Cream. What three things would you suggest I have?
Definitely a banana split and a cup of coffee. And one of my favorite menu items is an ice cream sandwich made with waffles (especially when they’re still warm) and Neapolitan ice cream. It reminds me of my childhood.

Yum. All of that sounds really good. We touched on this a little bit, but what can readers expect from your latest story, Double Scoop of Murder?
Double Scoop of Murder is a fun story. Eli and Gwen talk me into participating in a treasure hunt. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, but it turns out I really do. Until, of course, someone ends up murdered, and I’m once again dragged into the investigation (also known as sticking my nose in where it doesn’t belong, if you ask Detective Dreamy).

Dani, thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions for me.
Thank you so much for having me and for sharing my newest story.

The Coffee & Cream Cafe Mysteries Series:

Lena Gregory is the author of the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries, which take place on a small island between the north and south forks of Long Island, New York, the All-Day Breakfast Café Mysteries, which are set on the outskirts of Florida’s Ocala National Forest, the Mini-Meadows Mysteries, set in a community of tiny homes in Central Florida, and the Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries, which take place in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, New York.

Lena grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, but she recently traded in cold, damp, gray winters for the warmth and sunshine of central Florida, where she now lives with her husband, three kids, son-in-law, and four dogs. Her hobbies include spending time with family, reading, and walking. Her love for writing developed when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night. She works full-time as a writer and a freelance editor and is a member of Sisters in Crime.
