Tammy Wright, a bestselling mystery author returns to her hometown to give her Aunt Clara a hand with running her ceramic shop during tourist season. She discovers that two vindictive realtors have been bullying her aunt and others into selling their properties to make room for new housing developments. Those who don’t comply pay the consequences.

Tammy stumbles upon a body, and when her aunt refuses to give in to either realtor she disappears without a trace. With the help of an old schoolmate turned policeman, the writer must step out from behind her computer screen and her fictional mysteries to confront real life crime. If she doesn’t, she may never see her aunt again.

Good morning Tammy. Welcome to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. How are you?
I’m doing really well, thank you. Thank you for having me here.

You’re welcome. Before we get started, can you please introduce yourself to readers?
My name is Tammy Wright. I am twenty-seven years old and I write mysteries and thrillers for a living. I have had five successful books published and just recently moved from New York City back to my hometown of Braddock, Maine. My interests include reading, painting, and crafting of many different kinds. I just bought a new house I will be restoring and hope to hold author retreats there when it is finished.

Oh wow. You definitely sound busy. Can you please tell us about some people we’ll meet in your story?
I just bought my first house so as of yet I don’t have any pets, but as soon as the restoration is complete I will be visiting the local rescue and finding a couple of new roommates.

Just moving back to Braddock after leaving right after graduation, I haven’t been in touch with many of my high school friends yet. I have reconnected with my high school crush, Zeke Peters. He has the most gorgeous green eyes you will ever see. He became a Braddock deputy and it has been enjoyable getting to know him again and working side by side to solve the mystery at hand.

I hope as time passes I will be able to reconnect with the people of Braddock and become as highly regarded as my aunt is here in town.

How does it feel being a mystery author, but having to deal with a mystery in real life?
It feels exhilarating at times. I am learning so many things I didn’t know before. I am witnessing police procedures firsthand and I actually witnessed blood spatter and a dead body. The feelings in my gut were not what I expected them to be when seeing the body. Truthfully, I don’t think I could be a cop full-time, and I’ll stick to writing about it from behind the screen of my computer.

Can you please tell me more about Aunt Clara and what makes her so special to you?
Aunt Clara! What can I say about my aunt? She is a feisty, independent woman who I admire greatly. Her ceramic shop, Idle Chat, has been in business for over twenty-five years and has become a Braddock landmark. She serves as a selectwoman on the town board and is highly respected by all the locals. I only hope I am half the woman she is at her age.

She sounds amazing. I know why you put your sleuthing hat on, but how different are you finding sleuthing in real life, versus the page?
They are two totally different things. As a mystery author I can manipulate my stories to fit the solution, but in real life you have no control what-so-ever in the way events unfold. Writing a criminal encounter on paper isn’t half as scary as having to face ‘the bad guy’ in real life. You are not invincible and could get hurt. Sometimes there’s no escape like afforded to your characters in your books.

I feel dealing with this mystery has made me a better writer, both from the victim’s side and the people left behind to deal with it, and to slow the process of solving the crime down so it’s more like real life.

What’s next for you?
I will continue my writing as I restore my new house. I am really excited about holding writer’s retreats at my house, both for established writer’s who need some quiet time to create and also for beginning authors who need some guidance and maybe a few classes to help them on their way.

I’m also excited to see where my relationship with Zeke goes. He’s an awesome guy and I hope things work out for us. Time will tell.

Tammy, thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for talking with me. Have a great week!
