Series: A Tabitha Chase Days of the Week Mystery
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Release Date: March 14, 2024
It’s springtime, and Tabby figures what better way to unite the town of Crystal Cove than creating a community garden! The problem is, she knows nothing about tending the earth. However, there are several folks in town who have strong beliefs in how to start a garden right—unfortunately, all of these strong beliefs seem to disagree with one another.
Tabby thinks she has it handled when she comes up with a system that makes each group of gardeners feel valued in their plans and opinions, but when one of the most opinionated women turns up dead in the middle of the fresh soil, it seems she has another murder on her hands—and one she feels at least partially responsible for.
Join Tabby, Jay, Aaron, and Sherlock as they investigate and try to get to the bottom of this garden tragedy.
Hello, Tabby. Welcome to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. How are you?
I’m pretty good, thanks! It’s a beautiful morning and the sun is glinting off the ocean. I’m sitting on the front deck of my houseboat, catching up on emails. What could be better?
Not a whole lot. Before we get started, can you please introduce yourself to readers?
My name is Tabitha Chase, but my friends call me Tabby. I’m twenty-eight and I’ve recently relocated from Portland to the quaint seaside town of Crystal Cove. I live on my late aunt’s houseboat at the marina here, where I also manage the rentals of the other houseboats. Through the week, I also work at The Heirloom CafĂ© on Main Street where I’ve gotten to know many of the locals. My sister Pepper recently moved to town, too, and she lives on the houseboat next door. She is an intern at the hospital and plans to become a research doctor.
Tell me about your town of Crystal Cove.
Crystal Cove had my heart from the time when I was eight and stayed here with my aunt. When people say there’s something “magical” about a place, they’re usually talking figuratively, but I really mean it when it comes to Crystal Cove. The town was named for its blue crystals, which I’ve learned have helped to increase my intuition. There’s also something really magical about the sea glass I’ve found along the shore. The town isn’t small enough that I’ve met everyone yet, but I’m working on it!
Can you please tell us about some people we’ll meet in your story?
My inheritance from my Aunt Lizzie included her houseboat and a talking cat named Sherlock. He doesn’t really talk, but he does this thing I call mind-speak, and I’m convinced he can only do it because of the blue crystal he wears around his neck. You would also love my boyfriend, Detective Jay Jameson. I still blush every time I call him my boyfriend, but he is really wonderful and he values my input on all of his investigations. I also must mention the witch coven from Crystal Cove. Rachael is the only one I would call an actual friend. She struggles with her magic, which often goes awry. There are also some power hungry witches in town like Barbara Colling and Marigold Weathers. While I don’t completely trust either of them, they certainly keep life exciting!
What’s your most prized possession?
My most prized possession is probably my sea glass necklace. I made it from my late aunt’s belongings, and it was my first connection to the magic in this town. When I hold onto it, it helps me get in touch with my natural intuition.
Why do you feel the need to put on your sleuthing hat and investigate murders?
When I first came to Crystal Cove, no one here knew me and I was being accused of killing a witch. I investigated the death to clear my name, and I soon found I had a knack for it. My detective boyfriend appreciates my help with investigations now and I could never say no to him. If you’d like to read about my initial trip to Crystal Cove, you can currently read about it for free in the first book of the series, Witchy Wednesday, at https://shop.denisejaden.com/products/book-1-witchy-wednesday-a-tabitha-chase-days-of-the-week-mystery-e-book
You’ve been working with your creator Denise Jaden for a while now. How do you feel about her and the situations she puts you in?
Well, I know that Denise cares about me and this town, but I have to admit, she certainly gets me into some sticky situations! But in truth, if I hadn’t gone through many of the situations she’s put me into, I wouldn’t have so many close friends. I may not have met Jay. My sister likely wouldn’t have moved here to be with me. And we wouldn’t have learned to wield our special brand of family magic!
What’s next for you?
This is my final big adventure in my Days of the Week series, however, Denise assures me that I will have more adventures to come. Like back at Christmas, she took me all the way to West Virginia to meet one of her other sleuths and solve a mystery on that side of the country! Sign up for Denise’s newsletter at https://www.subscribepage.com/mysteryreaders so you can be sure not to miss any of my upcoming adventures (you’ll also get some bonus stories about Crystal Cove!)
Tabby, thank you so much for your time.
