Daniel observed with a sly grin playing on his lips. “I have to pee,” he announced, shooting a conspiratorial look at Marcus.

Their shared smiles hinted at something, and as Marcus made his way to the bench, it became clear they had a plan.

“How about a one-on-one?” Marcus suggested. “I’ll be the ref.”

As the words hung in the air, a spark of competition ignited between us. I glanced at Laura with a playful grin, a question in my eyes I couldn’t resist asking. “Willing to take me on, princess?”

Her glare was a playful and defiant response, accompanied by an eye roll. But I didn’t care about her façade. I tossed her the ball, and she caught it gracefully. “Ladies first,” I said with a bigger grin.

One dribble, and her lips curled into a teasing smile. Another dribble followed, and she still maintained her position, a challenge that drew my curiosity.

“Waiting for me to make a move, pretty?” I jested, a question tinged with a flicker of something more.

A suggestive smirk stretched across her lips. “Maybe…”

My smile faded, replaced by genuine surprise, as her laughter erupted. In a swift motion, she broke into a sprint, her gaze focused on the net. I sprinted after her, but before I could react, her hips nudged against me, sending me off balance. My footwork faltered, and I crashed to the floor, the world spinning for an instant. In that fleeting moment of disarray, she seized the opportunity, dribbling toward the net with a triumphant shout.

I glanced at my son, who was sharing a chuckle with Daniel.

So, no ref.

“You like playing hard, huh?” I taunted Laura.

She shot back without missing a beat, her voice dripping with innuendo, “Is there any other way?” Her devilish grin was a seductive invitation, sending a steamy frenzy flowing in me.

I ran with all my might; the adrenaline pumped through my veins as I closed in on Laura. She dribbled with finesse, but I was determined to steal the ball. I lunged forward, reaching out to grab it, but she spun away, her laughter vibrating in the air.

We played intensely, bumping into each other and blocking each other with full-body contact. The tension and friction between us were palpable, but I reveled in them. It was the first time I felt at ease with Laura, as if we were in sync on the court, and I didn’t want it to end.

I’m Elsa Jacobs, an indie author of contemporary romance and romantic suspense/thriller. I write unique love stories with a substantial amount of twists, turns, and spices.

Let me tell you how it all started. A few years back, I was battling brutal insomnia that just wouldn’t quit. Nights were a blur of characters and plots swirling around in my head, refusing to let me catch some shut-eye. It was maddening. Writing became my escape hatch—I had to get these stories out of my head.

In less than a year, I wrote four drafts, all because I needed an outlet for the chaos that was keeping me up at night. Publishing wasn’t even on my radar; I just needed some peace of mind. But then, something unexpected happened. I sent a chapter to an editor, not really expecting much to come of it.

But instead of a brush-off, I found myself teaming up with that editor to bring my first novel to life.

It was a game-changer. That’s when I decided to take the plunge and share the rest of my drafts, bit by bit, with the world.

My stories might have been born out of sleepless nights, but they’ve become my sanctuary, and I hope they become yours too.

Cheers,
Elsa.
