A Nine-Month Deal with Her Husband was a wonderful read. With Reykjavik, Iceland as the backdrop, I immediately fell in love with the characters of Millie Piper and Benedikt (Ben) Jonsson.
Twelve years ago, eighteen-year-old Millie and twenty-six-year-old Ben entered into a secret marriage of convenience so she could get independence from her stepfather and Ben could get the man out of the company Millie’s mother once started, which Ben owned half of. The deal was that when Millie turned 25 and was legally in charge of her assets she would sell Ben her half of the company. Their quick marriage ceremony was the last time they saw each other, with their only communication being through email.
Now successful in her own right, Millie is ready to start the family she’s always dreamed of. She thinks it’s inappropriate to be married and have a child that isn’t her husband’s. So Millie decides to make a surprise trip from London to Reykjavik and ask Ben for a divorce. Unfortunately, things don’t go according to plan and the first issue is a blizzard trapping them in Ben’s home for several days.
This forced proximity allows the two to realize they have an instant and blazing-hot attraction to each other. Oh, how I loved these two! Millie and Ben buried themselves inside my heart with their past hurts and desires to be better people. The love they found in one another was beautiful to witness. A Nine-Month Deal with Her Husband was a near-perfect read.
