Hi Cindy. Welcome to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. Please introduce yourself to readers.
My name is Cindy Cherubim Claus and I’m 116 years old. I moved to Silver Shoals to open a bakery. It’s a beautiful town nestled in a hillside on the shores of a great lake. The ice floes and snowy slopes remind me of home, but here, I have my first real independence. As a half-elf, one-quarter human, one-quarter angel, I had to wait until my 116th birthday to convince Santa to let me out of our protected community at the North Pole. This new town is filled with interesting people and quaint small businesses, like my homey bakery. You really should stop in and grab a gooey cinnamon roll to go.
Can you please tell us about some people we’ll meet in your story?
My advisor, Artikoa, the wise artic fox my father sent from the North Pole is becoming more than a spy. We’re simply two magical creatures attempting to live undercover. Of course, he has to pretend to be a dog — which he complains about in private at any opportunity. I’m learning to rely on him more and even trust him. Then there’s Ronnie. He’s been such a kind landlord. He even bailed me out of jail when I first came to town. Oh, there’s a new restaurant across the street called D’lish, and it absolutely IS! Plus, I had to hire some help at the bakery…
Tell me about a defining moment in your life.
It was definitely the week before my 116th birthday. Santa had been training me to take over the family business — my whole life. I didn’t want to follow in his footsteps. I love Christmas and I’m so glad he delivers toys to all the children, but that wasn’t my passion. When I dug up the courage to tell Papa and Mama about my dream of living in the human world and opening a bakery… Well, you better read the whole story. Trixie did a good job of telling my side of the story in Peppermint Cookie Murder.
What’s your most prized possession?
Cookie crumbs! That’s such a tough question. I used to think it was my magical snowglobe. It allows me to talk to my mother, back at the North Pole, whenever I need advice — or get a little homesick. But, after Ronnie gave me his late wife’s cookbooks… I think the cookbooks might be my new favorite. ☺
Why do you feel the need to put on your sleuthing hat and investigate murders?
I’m still figuring out this human world, but I never wanted to investigate anything. When the local law enforcement tried to pin a murder on me, I had to prove my innocence. I’d never hurt anyone — or anything. The second time I got pulled into an investigation, it was to help out a friend. So, I suppose I sleuth around because I have a big heart, I know who’s on the Naughty List, and I don’t want any Nice Listers getting in trouble they don’t deserve.
I’m a romance girl. Is there any chance of a budding romance in your future? If so, I want ALL the details!
As usual, my cheeks instantly turn as rosy as my father’s. A telltale Claus trait. There’s a very nice medical investigator in town. He’s on the Nice List and even though I have a lot to learn about humans, I think he might like me. Keith Winters is intelligent, thoughtful, and he laughs at all my silly jokes. Artikoa is against any close friendships with humans, but I might have to ignore my trusted advisor on this issue.
What can readers expect from Apple Dumpling Murder?
Oh gosh! I’m so happy in Silver Shoals. Honestly, it’s hard to believe anyone would want to write about the shenanigans around here. This Trixie Silvertale seems to enjoy it, though. She wrote another tale titled APPLE DUMPLING MURDER. Apple dumplings are one of my favorite things to make at my bakery. Blizzards! I forgot the question. Right, the novel. This story is the second one in a series the author calls, Christmas Catastrophe Mysteries. Truth is, I don’t mean to get into trouble. I wanted to get away from the North Pole and the pressure to take over my father’s toy delivery business. Things seemed perfect when I got to town, but I had to solve a murder to stay out of jail, and now I have to find a way to prove my new friend’s innocence. The human world is way more complicated than I assumed.
Cindy, thank you so much for your time.
