The night in 1982 that changed everything…
There is no way I can resist avenging my sister's broken heart by filling her cheating boyfriend's bitchin' DeLorean with extra buttered movie popcorn, a half-melted Snickers, and the contents of one shaken can of Tab.
There's only one six-foot-six-inch problem. It's not The Creep's car. It's Frank "The Airhead" Hartigan's. Now he wants me to drive him to Harbor City to make up for trashing his ride.
On the outside, I'm all gag me with a spoon, but on the inside? Yeah, not so much. The truth is I haven't stopped thinking about him since that night at Marino's Bar when he rocked my world to the max—something that can't happen again.
Frank Hartigan isn't a guy you fall for if you want to keep your heart in one piece. Waterbury is littered with the broken hearts of the women who forgot that, and I am not about to join their ranks.
Fine. I'll drive him around town, but that's it.
No kisses.
No getting hot and bothered.
No toe-curling anything.
And no matter what happens tonight, my heart—and my panties—will for sure remain untouched.
With Airhead, Avery Flynn pens a gift to her readers. If you are a reader of Avery’s, then you know the name Hartigan. If you are new to Avery's books, then you are in luck. Airhead takes you back to the 80’s, where the love affair of Frank Hartigan, Sr., and Katie Madigan began. Their love story spans forty years and results in several children, most of whom have gone on to have their own love stories told (Hartigan series, Harbor City series, and Mama’s Boy).
Airhead marks my first time reading anything related to the Hartigans. I immediately fell in love with Frank “Airhead” Hartigan. I love that he has had a thing for Katie since high school, and either she didn’t know or didn’t care. Frank isn’t Katie’s favorite person in the world. But to him, Katie’s the girl for him. Her fire captain father forces her to work with Frank, who is a firefighter at his station, to plan a retirement party for another firefighter. This forces them to spend time together, which softens Katie’s attitude toward Frank a little bit.
When Frank catches Katie vandalizing her sister’s on-again-off-again boyfriend’s car, Frank convinces her it’s his car to get her away from the scene. As the two are getting away, Frank promises her the best night of her life and pulls it off through plain old fun and adversity.
Airhead was the perfect love story. The ending left me in tears.
