In this spellbinding rom-com about a wish gone wrong, two opposites might just get a second chance at love, perfect for fans of New York Times bestsellers Payback's a Witch and The Ex Hex.
Ex-celebrity chef Sirena Caraway has had the wackiest October ever. Her cooking powers are on the fritz, she failed to land a career-saving job, and she embarrassed herself at the town’s Halloween party. Just before midnight, she makes a desperate wish for a second chance to fix her life. The next morning Sirena wakes up and realizes that she’s repeating the entire pumpkin spice-flavored month. Even sweeter, she runs into Gus Dearworth, whose magic leaves her spellbound.
A former reality star, Gus moved to Freya Grove to rebuild his reputation and heal his broken heart, but his restless magic is tempting him to return to the spotlight. And his secret crush on Sirena is making him want to try something dangerous like fall in love again. When Sirena realizes he can help her fix her powers, Gus makes her a deal. If she’ll help decipher a mysterious cookbook in his collection, he'll help get her magical groove back.
Every encounter offers a new adventure—from tasting menus, harvest mazes, and a growing attraction that’s taking on an irresistible enchantment of its own. But as the month winds down and the wish grows stronger, Sirena and Gus have a decision to make. Will their second chance be their happy-ever-after ending or a bittersweet memory?
I love the magical town of Freya Grove, New Jersey, that Celestine Martin has created for her Elemental Love series. It’s full of humans and magical beings such as witches, fae, trolls, mermen, magicians, and gnomes.
Sirena Caraway returned to Freya Grove after the death of her Nana to comfort her sisters. It was supposed to be a short trip, but that was four years ago. Since Nana’s death, this kitchen witch has lost her way. Her restaurant concept and recipes have been stolen, and no matter how hard she tries, her dishes just don’t come out right.
Gus Dearworth is working on his second act. He was once known as “Good-Time Gus” and was the popular closing act of his world-famous Dearworth magician family. Their fame and notoriety resulted in them having a reality TV show that captured Gus at his lowest with his then-wife declaring for all to hear that she wanted a divorce. For the last two and a half years, Gus has been happy in Freya Grove, working as a steward for the Freya Grove Historical Society.
Gus can’t help but check out Sirena from time to time. Even if he never actually speaks to her. At his Halloween/birthday party, things are going to change. When Sirena’s costume is ruined at Gus’s party, she returns home and reflects on the horrible October she’s having. After drinking some “wish tea,” she casually wishes she had a second chance, and wakes up to October 1st, where she then spends the month being granted a second chance.
I loved Deja Brew from beginning to end. Sierena and Gus are just so right for each other. I loved their interactions and their playful dates. The magic that’s created between them, because of them, is wondrous and special.
As of this moment, Deja Brew is the final book in the Elemental Love series. I’m a little sad to leave Freya Grove. I can definitely see two more books from this series. Lucy and Sirena’s sister, Callie, hasn’t found love yet. And Gus’s sister Diane and his best friend, Zeke, seem pretty close. Regardless, I’m looking forward to reading more books from Celestine in the future.
