Ebony Grace Livingston was raised to be flawless. A debutante-turned-elite event planner, she built a life around breathtaking galas, whispered exclusives, and the kind of connections money can’t buy. But when her husband’s betrayal turns her into high society’s juiciest scandal, Ebony decides she’s done curating perfection for everyone but herself.
With a high-profile wedding to pull off, a social media following obsessed with her every move, and a no-nonsense life coach reminding her that the real glow-up starts from within, Ebony is ready to write her next chapter — on her own terms. The only thing standing in her way? Lincoln Bridges, the maddeningly meticulous architect overseeing the historic venue she needs to transform. He’s stubborn, insufferably charming, and worst of all, the one man who saw through her marriage before she did.
Their creative clashes reignite old wounds, unfinished business, and the kind of chemistry that once felt inevitable. But in a world where power is played in private lounges, loyalty is measured in invitations, and champagne flows as freely as the gossip, Ebony will have to decide if rewriting her future means making room for something real.
Set in an exclusive world where wealth whispers, bottomless brunches double as battleground boardrooms, and reputation is the ultimate currency, Ebony is about to prove that reinvention isn’t just an option — it’s a luxury she’s finally ready to afford.
Ebony Grace Livingston is the epitome of poise and elegance. Since she was a teenager, she has been groomed to be a debutante. This means dating and marrying the right man, from the right family. It means being picture-ready at all times, going to just the right social events, and being seen with the right people. And if your husband decides to seek female company elsewhere, you are to turn a blind eye and carry on as though everything is perfectly fine.
After discovering her husband cheating on local TV, Ebony has had enough. Enough of doing things to make her ex-husband look good, enough of Matrimonial Mondays, enough of putting everyone and everything first, before herself. Ebony is ready to redefine who she is and reclaim herself. She’s worked hard to grow her event planning business and after a break, due to the divorce, she’s ready to reclaim the title of event planner extraordinaire, even if it means planning the wedding of her ex-brother-in-law, working with her ex-mother-in-law, a super-tight wedding deadline, and a contractor she’d rather not see or speak with.
Lincoln Bridges is tired of certain people in Ellswood, Georgia, trying to erase its rich black history. It’s why he takes his job as a heritage construction contractor so seriously. Restoring Madison Manor is a dream come true. Working with Ebony and her former mother-in-law, not so much. The three have a history, and not necessarily a good one.
I was not prepared for Mia Heintzelman’s The Divorcetante, the first book in her The Divatantes series. This story is messy. So so messy. It's like Real Housewives of Potomac (I'm talking about Karen) meets Real Housewives of Atlanta (Black girl magic) meets (I’m still trying to figure it out, but it's tickling my brain). There’s betrayal, scandal, and I can’t forget about the sour puss who needs to be knocked down a few pegs.
The Divorcetante is a second-chance romance, where he falls first. Linc not only shows up physically but also through his words and actions.
Did I mention messy? Ebony is reclaiming her life on her own terms. While working with and falling for Lincoln wasn’t on her bingo card, she finally finds someone who truly loves her for her and wants her to be the very best she can be. Their coupling is fun, sexy, and steamy. While a lot of people around her go low, Ebony stayed high, and STILL delivered.
I’m looking forward to seeing who the next couple in this series will be.
