A surprise pregnancy, marriage of convenience, Italian billionaire romance from Bella Mason.
First comes baby…
Then a diamond!
Jilted bride Jasmine Hall will never tie herself to a man again. Even her wedding night was a hot no-strings encounter with a handsome stranger. Except now Jasmine is forced to uncover his identity… To tell Italian billionaire Emilio De Luca she’s pregnant!
Protecting his legacy is of the utmost importance to Emilio. He demands “I do” but, burned before, insists the on-paper union cannot be anything deeper. Yet their every heated gaze incinerates the limits Emilio has set himself! If he can’t control their passion, he may as well set the playbook on fire…
I don’t read a lot of Harlequin Presents books, but when I do, I forget how much I enjoy them. My current genre of choice is romantic fantasy, so I thought picking up Bella Mason’s Pregnant Before “I Do” would be a good palate cleanser and give me a little rest from all the intensity of romantasy.
I was immediately drawn to the hero, twenty-nine-year-old Emilio De Luca, CEO of the American division of De Luca and Co., as he spent a few final precious moments with his mother before she passed away. With her passing, Emilio is now essentially alone in the world. Though he has an older brother, the two were never really close, and for the last eight years, they have only ever spoken through lawyers and other employees. Emilio is a man with trust issues and doesn’t believe in love or relationships.
Moments before Jasmine Hall was set to walk down the aisle, she received a letter from her fiancΓ©, informing her that he and her maid of honor (her former best friend) were in love and had decided to be together. The twenty-eight-year-old now wants to make the most of what was supposed to be her wedding night. She dresses up and goes to the club where she and her ex were supposed to be celebrating before their honeymoon. At the same time, Emilio just happens to be at the club, trying to relax and get back in the swing of things after his mother’s death. In one of my favorite moments, Emilio and Jasmine lock eyes from across the room, share a drink, and eventually a hotel room. They both agree they want nothing more than this one night and go their separate ways.
When Jasmine learns she’s pregnant, she tracks down Emilio to tell him, with the sole purpose of letting him know that if he wants to be in his child’s life, they can work out a custody arrangement. She isn’t expecting or prepared for him to suggest they pretend to be a couple and quickly get married.
Pregnant Before “I Do” is the story of two people who have been hurt too many times by those who should care for and love them. Neither Jasmine nor Emilio trusts easily. Neither is looking for love or the one, but fate has other plans. I loved both of these characters and their journey to a happily ever after.
While this is the second book in the De Luca Legacy duet, Pregnant Before “I Do” can be read as a standalone. Note that part of the story takes place while the first book, Strictly Forbidden Boss, is also taking place. I definitely need to go back and read Emilio’s brother, Enzo’s, story.
