I will make myself strong.
I will find Elias.
I will kill Elias.
I will never trust a boy with my heart again.

These are the vows Charlie Hudson made the day after Elias Everhart betrayed her, nearly killing everyone she loves most. One month later, revenge is still her priority, even as she navigates a harsh new reality: one where her brother and friends can now see Asgard, making them just as susceptible to its dazzling delights - and deadly dangers - as she is.

But when two bodies turn up in the forest outside town, and Elias waltzes back into her life with an offer to help find out what's happening, Charlie finds herself accepting his offer—but only because feigning an alliance is her best chance to figure out how to kill him. And if it feels like the more time she spends with him, the more her heart softens, it must be a trick of the unusually warm fall air. Because there’s no way she would make the grave mistake of falling for Elias Everhart twice… right?

Emma Noyes's Heart of Mischief will have readers falling in love - and falling apart - and loving every minute of it.

Heart of Mischief is the second book in Emma Noyes’s Soul of Shadow series, picking up where Soul of Shadow left off.

Seventeen-year-old Charlie Hudson is out for revenge after Elias Everheart betrayed her, her brother Mason, and her friends. Elias was instrumental in lifting the veil of the mortal world from their eyes, revealing that Asgard is real, amongst other things.

Teenage siblings, all close in age to Charlie and Mason, are being found dead in the small town of Silver Springs, Michigan. This leads Charlie to wonder if the deaths are somehow connected to her and Mason. When Elias returns, it's confirmed that whoever is responsible is looking for them. Charlie has no other choice but to work with him to find out who's after them and why.

The more time Charlie spends with Elias, the more her vow to end him dissolves, replaced by genuine feelings. Is it possible that he feels the same way?

Heart of Mischief was such a fun, fast-paced story that quickly turns dark. Dark forces are at work, and it’s just a matter of time before they catch up with the Hudson siblings. Through it all, Elias vows to protect them, even if it means his life. When the unthinkable happens, Charlie will need to rely on more than her card magic to save those she cares about.

Charlie, Elias, and Henry (especially Henry) are some of my favorite characters. Charlie is courageous and has a tremendous amount of perseverance, but she suffers from anxiety because of everything that has happened. Elias is still a mystery, with a moral compass that is a little skewed. The two feed off each other with sharp, sometimes cutting comments. They definitely have frenemies and enemies-to- lovers dynamic down pat.

I loved Heart of Mischief, perhaps even more than Soul of Shadow. I loved the surprises and shocking twists. Yep. I totally didn't see those coming. But I STILL have questions. I am most definitely looking forward to reading Dreams of Ruin.
