Book Review ~ TOO FAST TO FALL by Karen Booth

Not So Fast
by: Karen Booth
Series: Fast Track
Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 26, 2026
Publisher: Afterglow Books by Harlequin

A grumpy-sunshine Formula One romance with spice! When a star driver hires a new dog nanny, he gets an all-American girl who loves dogs, cars… and making him beg. For fans of Amanda Weaver, Simone Soltani, Lauren Asher, Hannah Grace, and Sarah Adams.

So what if she’s crushing on a race car driver? That doesn’t mean it’s love at first lap.

But maybe it’s love at first lap dog?

Yesterday, Piper Murphy was just another dog sitter helping her sister with wedding prep while pretending she’s over her own broken engagement.

Today, she’s the fill-in dog sitter for Formula One driver Emilio Baquero. Brooding, gorgeous driver + naughty, cute Lab? Woof, down boy.

When Emilio offers her a five-week gig as his live-in dog nanny in London, Piper can’t help but say yes. It’s out of her comfort zone, sure, but it’s also a ticket to travel, racing, and caring for a dog she already adores. All while escaping the wedding planning that’s put her failures front and center.

Only being under the same roof means there’s no escaping Emilio’s intensity, or grumpiness. Piper tries to be a sunny presence, but their clashes just fuel the slow-burn tension to something near combustible.

Because falling for your boss is risky when you have a broken heart. Falling for your famous boss and his adorable dog? That’s a crash waiting to happen.

Too Fast to Fall is part of the Fast Track series from Karen Booth. Don't miss the first book, Not So Fast.

I’ve been a fan of Karen Booth for years. Her stories and characters always pull me in and make me believe in the power of love. Too Fast to Fall has become one of my favorite books from Karen, which says a lot, since I’ve read 28 of her 45 books!

In Too Fast To Fall, Formula One driver Emilio Baquero is having a tough year, both personally and professionally. His parents are getting divorced, with him being stuck in the middle. His girlfriend has broken up with him and is dating a rival driver. His racing team dropped him due to a scandal he had no part in. And, while a new team picked him up, the move required him to move to a different country, which has left him struggling.

The only bright side in his life is his golden retriever, Gus. The two are each other’s worlds. So when Gus’ latest dog sitter quits on the spot, stating Gus is uncontrollable, Emilio has no idea what to do. Enter Mega Racing’s PR extraordinaire, Isabel, who hires Piper Murphy through Fido & Friends. Gus takes an instant liking to Piper and is on his best behavior. Emilio sees the immediate change in Gus and convinces Piper to be Gus’ dog nanny for several weeks, which means that she will be traveling all over the world with them. Gus isn’t the only one who falls instantly for Piper, so does Emilio, but he’s determined to ignore his feelings.

Spending time together at the race track, Emilio’s small home, and even smaller racing trailer and camper means that Emilio and Piper can’t keep their distance and growing feelings for each other in check. When a misunderstanding results in the two being linked together romantically, the temptation to share just one kiss becomes too much to bear.

I loved Too Fast To Fall for its simplicity. It was fun and entertaining, without the usual dark and gloomy moments for the couple. The best part of the story was that certain parts are told from Gus’ point of view. Those were the moments I smiled the most. The grand gesture was truly one of the sweetest I’ve read in a long time. There is definitely a reason Karen Booth is one of my favorite authors, and she proves it with each and every book I read.

“Love is like air. It’s around us. It’s in us. And either we tap into it with another person or an animal or a song or a piece of art or something we feel drawn to, or we don’t.”

“I think love is love. It grows. And sometimes it shrinks. Sometimes it goes away completely. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. And it doesn’t mean we won’t find it again.”

“Loss isn’t comparable. It’s different for everyone, and the way it affects us is different, too.”

“Sometimes, it was good to simply have someone acknowledge that you were tackling a difficult thing.”
