When more bodies start to pile up, Jocelyn has to decide just how far she’s willing to go to catch a cold-blooded killer.
REVIEW
Lisa Regan has created a disturbing and intriguing story in Cold-Blooded. Just when you think that you have the mystery all figured out, you don’t. It’s not the mystery itself that makes this book so compelling, it’s the journey into the dark and twisted mind of a psychopath that keeps you turning the page. Every detail sucks you in and gets you emotionally involved because you can’t help but wonder if there are really people like that in the real world. Of course, when you know the answer is a resounding yes, you’re glad that this is only a book.
Cold-Blooded is the story of former police detective turned private investigator, Jocelyn Rush. She is hired by former homicide detective Augustus Knox. Knox wants her to solve a decades old murder of a female high school student who was gunned down while jogging one night. This case was an obsession for Knox because he was sure who the killer was but couldn’t find any hard evidence to convict him. Now, Knox only has about 6 months to live and wants to get closure for the family. Ironically, Knox ruined his own family by not letting this case go for all of these years. He was an excellent detective who allowed this one tragedy to make him a pathetic drunk. To make matters worse, Rush has her own scars both literally and figuratively from the last case that she worked as a detective. Together, they pursue a pedophile who has been preying on young girls for years. It is a group effort as they get help from other contacts in law enforcement and find an unlikely ally in the pedophile’s wife. However, things aren’t always what they seem.
As they say, the devil is in the details. I’m glad that the author breaks up some of the intensity by allowing us to get a glimpse into Knox and Rush’s personal lives. Cold-Blooded is the second book in a series but I had no problem finding my way without reading the first book, Hold Still, although I do intend to go back and read it. All of the characters had something to offer this story. I truly felt like it was complete and didn’t leave my hanging. The suspense is so good that I don’t dare to give anything anyway. You will not be disappointed.
