All I Want for Christmas is You by Molly O'Keefe

Maddy Baumgarten and Billy Wilkins are spontaneous, in love, and prepared to elope the day after Christmas--that is if Maddy's family doesn't throw a wrench in their plans.  After all, Maddy's barely out of high school and Billy's a notorious bad boy.  Maddy doesn't care about Billy's rough past--all she cares about is living in the here and now.  But after Maddy's mother stops speaking to her in protest, and a Christmas Eve heart-to-heart with her father leaves her with butterflies, Maddy starts to get cold feet.  She loves Billy, but is she taking this big step too soon?

REVIEW

All I Want for Christmas is You is a short story which is part of the Naughty & Nice anthology from Random House, featuring Ruthie Knox, Molly O'Keefe, and Stefanie Sloane.  Without giving too much of the book away, I can say Billy is twenty years old and Maddy who just turned eighteen have been a couple for about a year and want to get married.  Billy has a past, which wasn't really addressed in the book.  To him, Maddy and hockey are his life.  He's so sure of them and he wants her to be with him forever.  Maddy, on the other hand, has some doubts.

I'm a fan of Molly O'Keefe, especially the Crooked Creek Ranch series.  To say I was looking forward to this book is an understatement.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure what I was really supposed to get out of this book.

All I Want for Christmas is You is the story of Maddy Baumgarten (Madelyne Cornish) and Billy Wilkins, the lead characters in Crazy Thing Called Love, the third book in the Crooked Creek Ranch series.  In fact, it's the prequel to their main story.  If you read the second book, Can't Hurry Love, then you know Maddy and Billy accidentally run into each other, which resulted in Maddy running away and Billy confusing that she is his ex-wife.

While it pains me to say this, I feel as though this was just a throw away book for Molly.  Wait.  Let me clarify that statement.  Had I gone into reading this book not knowing there was another book for these two coming and that it wasn't linked to anything else, I wouldn't feel this way.  I would feel that I met two young people who were in love and got their happy ever after.  End of story.  But being a part of a series, I don't really see where it fits in.  Again, what we learned in this book could be important to what happens in Crazy Thing Called Love, and I have a feeling that it does.  But at the moment, I just don't see it.

Rating: 3 Stars (Because I'm just not sure where it really fits in the overall storyline of Maddy and Billy.)
