Toni Diamond wins a cruise. Will the real prize be murder?

Toni Diamond, makeup artist to middle America, boards a cruise ship planning to enjoy seven days of sun, sea and relaxation. She's taking her rebellious almost-seventeen year old daughter Tiffany and her Dolly Parton-crazed mother, Linda, along for the treat. Unfortunately, the cruise isn't all bliss. Between mysterious disappearances, an outbreak of Norovirus and her sense of impending doom, Toni's barely got a moment to relax in one of the striped lounge chairs. But is there really something sinister going on or is Toni imagining things?

REVIEW
Midnight Shimmer is different from other cozy mysteries I've read.  You don't find out there's a death until well over halfway into the book.  I honestly had absolutely no idea where the story was going.

You know the saying about curiosity and the cat....Well, it's a very good thing I'm not a cat.  I can't say Midnight Shimmer had me from the beginning or kept me on the edge of my seat, but I can say it definitely had me curious.  While this isn't my first time reading a book by Nancy Warren, it is my first time reading one of her Toni Diamond mysteries.  You have to read more than half of the book for anything relating to a murder or potential murder to happen. So curiosity definitely played a roll with me reading this book.  But once there was a case to solve, I was definitely game.

Initially, when I saw this was the third book in a series, I was a little worried, but this is a standalone book.  Nancy has created great characters in Toni Diamond, her daughter Tiffany, and her mother Linda.  Nancy has written a web which draws you in and leaves you wondering where this adventure is going to take you.  Since the book blurb doesn't give away any clue as to what happens in the book, I'm going to do the same.  But I will say Nancy gives you that “awe crap” moment, when you just know something bad is going to happen, but you end up wiping your brow going okay, this is going to be okay, but what now?  She also delivers on humor.  I know murder and humor shouldn't go together, but here it does.

I'm really happy that I read this book and I can't wait to go and read the previous books in the series and hopefully new ones that will come out.
