While fighting in Afghanistan, Major Grant Barrett receives devastating news: his brother and sister-in-law have been murdered in Scarlet Falls, the sleepy suburb of Grant’s youth. Emotionally scarred from war, the career soldier returns home on emergency leave to temporarily care for his orphaned nephew and niece. But when someone tries to kidnap the kids and their teenage babysitter, Grant knows it’s not a random act…and neither were the murders.

Already devastated by her neighbors’ violent deaths, Ellie Ross is shattered by the attempted abduction of her teenage daughter so she desperately turns to Grant for help. As they navigate a deadly search for the truth, they struggle with growing feelings for each other and Grant’s impending return to deployment.

But time is running out. The killer is growing bolder by the hour, and Ellie and Grant must find him before the children become his next victims.

REVIEW
Hour of Need is a very well written romantic suspense.  It was very realistic and had some very likable characters.  From start to finish, I was excited to find out what would happen next.  The situations were current and the events could have just as easily happened to my next door neighbor.  I could have sworn that it was taken from the headlines of the news last night.  There’s bullying, Afghanistan, lawsuits, and a family that has drifted apart.  Just your everyday drama.

Major Grant Barrett is being ambushed in Afghanistan while his brother Lee and Lee’s wife Kate are being murdered in Scarlet Falls, New York.  Grant and his other two siblings, Hannah and Mac come back home to Scarlet Falls to take care of their now orphaned niece and nephew and try to figure out what happened to their mild-mannered brother.  Lee’s neighbor, Ellie helps with their search for the truth and has no idea how close to home the mystery will hit.  Ellie will also help Grant discover that there is more to life than his quest to please his father and become the general that his father named him after. The law firm that both Ellie and Lee worked for will serve as the springboard for the investigation but that’s all that I can say regarding the mystery.  There will be several family issues that get addressed that I could relate to.

Of course, Grant and Ellie will get to know each other in more ways than one. They will have to make some hard choices regarding their past and present lives.  I was not disappointed by anything that happened between them.  I hope to see what happens with Hannah and her brother Mac in future installments. They all had intriguing back stories, especially since Mac was a former drug addict turned biologist.  He played the role of quirky scientist very well. Hannah also plays the role of high powered attorney with little emotions effectively.  I still liked them though.  There is so much that I can’t say since there is a heavy amount of mystery to watch unfold.
