"The Man" is back

Dan "The Man" Currington is back in fighting form with a mission that takes him four thousand miles south of BKI headquarters, high in the Andes Mountains of Peru. He's hot on the trail of a rogue CIA agent selling classified government secrets to the highest bidder, when Penni DePaul arrives on the scene. Suddenly the stakes are higher, and keeping Penni safe becomes Dan's number one priority.

And this time she's ready

A lot has changed since former Secret Service Agent Penni DePaul last saw Dan. Now a civilian, she's excited about what the future might hold. But before she can grab onto that future with both hands, she has to tie up some loose ends-namely, Dan Currington, the man she just can't forget. And a secret that's going to change both their lives-if they can stay alive, that is.

I’m super excited to welcome Julie Ann Walker to Read Your Writes Book Reviews.  I mean like so excited, I didn’t know what questions to ask.  Don’t you just hate when that happens?  Anyway... sit back and enjoy my little Q&A with New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author, Julie Ann Walker.

Hi Julie, thank you so much for joining me!
Hi Kim. Thanks so much for having me!  What a treat to be on Read Your Writes Book Reviews!

So tell me, what things do you need in order to write?
Three things.  The first is my series bible and my character outlines.  They keep those plot threads, personality traits, motivations, and all the other various and sundry minor details straight in my head.  I'd be lost without them.  The second is a pad of sticky notes -- or more like pads of sticky notes.  I write ideas, bits of dialogue, and plot points on these concerning my current work in progress.  By the time I get to the end of a book, my office looks like a Staples store threw up all over the place.  And last, but certainly not least, is a cup of coffee.  And by cup I mean carafe.  And by carafe I mean gallon jug.  And by gallon jug I mean... you get the picture.  *wink*
I definitely get the idea.  What drew you to writing romantic suspense?
To me, romantic suspense captures what is great in multiple genres.  It has all the sexual tension and the boy-meets-girl deliciousness of a contemporary romance, the intrigue of a mystery, the suspense of a thriller, and the fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat pacing of an action/adventure novel.  So, you know, all the good stuff rolled up into one awesome book.

Yes.  The best of both worlds.  How did the Black Knights series come to be?
It's a really long story, but the Cliff's Notes version is that I sat down and wrote the story I wanted to read.  A story about rough and tough military men and what they'd do after they waved goodbye to the various armed services.  A tale about how they would continue to serve their country, but in a slighter more intriguing, and certainly more dangerous role.  And an account of how they would eventually succumb to the most treacherous and triumphant thing of all: love.

Okay, hard question.  To date, who's your favorite heroine from the series and why?
That's really hard.  But I'd have to say it's Becky Knight nee Reichert.  She's brash and ballsy and enough of a badass to whip all those Black Knights Inc. alpha males into shape.  She's who I'd want to be if I could be any of my heroines.

And finally, another tough question.  To date, who's your favorite Black Knights hero and why?
Now this one is impossible.  I'm always in love with whichever hero I'm currently writing.  I'm fickle and easy that way.  Ha!

I understand.  It’s like asking a reader who their favorite hero is.  For me, personally, whenever I attempt to answer that question, I get at least five guys arguing in my head.  Julie, thank you so much for answering a few of my burning questions.  Congratulations again on Too Hard to Handle.
Thank you and thanks for having me.
