REVIEW
As far as military romances go, Target Engaged has to be the most well-balanced one that I have read. M.L. Buchman did a great job of making sure that it had equal parts romance and military operations. Oddly enough, there was plenty of death and destruction but it never overshadowed the romance between newly graduated Delta operatives Carla Anderson and Kyle Reeves.
As the main character, Sergeant Carla Anderson is introduced as a heart-broken Army overachiever that has just been accepted into the elite Delta Force. She is the first female to get accepted into the program. Carla has an alcoholic for a father and has since buried her military mother and brother. She is as tough as they come. Sergeant Kyle Reeves is a former Green Beret whose accomplishments also put him into the Delta Force training program. Throughout their training, Carla and Kyle push each other to be the best in the field and in bed. They have a scorching hot attraction to each other that makes it hard for them to keep their clothes on when they are together. They also become complementary pieces to their Delta Force Unit. There is no denying how much they mean to each other. The only problem is that only one of them is capable of falling in love.
I truly enjoyed Target Engaged. There was so much going on during and in between missions that it took longer than usual for me to read. The mission details were very specific but I was thoroughly entertained with all of the kill shots and blowing things up. As a Unit, they had fun obliterating their targets. They handled their missions with precision and style that made it seem like The Unit had been together for years. At some point, one of them gets taken captive and it’s impressive to see how they go about rescuing their leader. I’m looking forward to future books.
