In USA Today bestseller Christi Barth’s last Bad Boys Gone Good novel, the brother who’s always followed the rules finally gets to be a little bad.
Kellan Maguire was a semester away from becoming a lawyer when his life imploded. Now he’s in Witness Protection, hiding from the mob and mad as hell that his brothers lied to him about, oh, everything. The only bright spot in his new life is their drop-dead-gorgeous U.S. Marshal handler. Yeah, he wants to handle her... a lot.
Federal Marshal Delaney Evans has protected her fair share of dangerous criminals. But Kellan is a whole different kind of dangerous—dangerously hot, to be specific. The charming, handsome, and utterly law-abiding Maguire brother got under her skin the moment they met and the more time she spends with him, the harder it is to deny their attraction. Delaney’s willing to give Kellan one night—to get him out of her system—and then it’s over.
Except one night isn’t enough and soon they’re breaking every rule of WITSEC to be together. Kellan’s got it bad for her, but Delaney’s career, her entire life, would fall apart if anyone found out. And then the biggest complication of all hits…
I’m a big fan of Christi Barth’s Bad Boys Gone Good series. The series is about three brothers who turn state’s evidence against the Chicago mob and go into hiding with WITSEC. Well actually, only two of the three brothers have mob ties. The youngest, Kellan is ambushed with this information merely months before he is set to become an attorney and life as he knows it will never be the same. Kellan Maguire aka Kieran Mullaney is the good, law abiding brother. In his 25 years, he never knew his father and brothers worked for Irish mob boss Danny McGinty. He only knew his brothers, Rafe and Flynn, took extremely good care of him, made sure he didn’t want for anything, and loved him unconditionally, after the deaths of both of their parents.
For the past seven months, Kellan has towed the line and done exactly what has been asked of him. Yes, he’s still a little hurt and upset his brothers lied to him for years, but he loves them and knows he’ll forgive them. When you join WITSEC you have to leave your old life behind. You aren’t allowed to talk to old friends, visit places you’ve come to love, or even work in the same career field. The old you ceases to exist. But Kellan, unbeknownst to anyone, did take something of his old life into his new one. That something was his attraction to Federal Marshal Delaney Evans.
From the moment Kellan laid eyes on Delaney, he couldn’t help but be intrigued by her. One quick kiss opened up many possibilities before his world changed. For Delaney, Kellan immediately had her going out of her comfort zone. Kellan’s flirtatious ways finally wore her down and one powerful kiss demanded the two explore their attraction for one another. And so the straight laced Kellan Maguire and the hard working, dedicated US Marshal Delaney Evans embark on a clandestine love affair that becomes so much more than either bargained for.
There are so many reasons for me to love Got it Bad. First off is Kellan himself. He had my heart from the very beginning of the series. There are so many layers to him. He’s funny, caring, passionate, and thoughtful. He’s a thinker and has deep emotions, but he doesn’t say what he thinks or feels often. Delaney has her own baggage. I gather it’s not something she talks about, but this baggage was the driving force for her becoming a marshal. Delaney definitely doesn’t believe in love or in a woman losing herself to a man. There is no question that these two are good together. I loved watching them fall in love and lean on each other.
Got it Bad can be read as a standalone however, Rafe, Flynn, and their significant others are woven throughout the story. Flynn’s girlfriend Sierra had her own little mini-plot in Never Been Good, and it’s mentioned in Got it Bad. The reckoning between the Mullaneys and McGinty is coming. This was something I was really looking forward to. I forgot this wasn’t a romantic suspense, so I was a little let down when there wasn’t any edge of your seat action involved. However, the threat to the Maguires and those they love is very real. I must say that part of the story did surprise me. In fact, there were other parts of the story that surprised me as well. Got it Bad is a really good ending to a wonderful series.
