From the author of The December Deal comes another charming holiday story of finding love in the least likely places.
Silver Morgenstern had a thriving, meaningful career as a surgeon working for charity organizations in war-torn countries. Then her life changed with one flick of the wrist. Now she’s back in Wyoming, serving as an administrator at the local hospital. But shuffling paperwork is nothing compared to saving lives.
Five years ago, Fisher Tibbs founded the successful social program Combat Children’s Hunger. Giving back to kids brings a sparkle to his eye, especially after the loss of his own young daughter, but it can’t mend the very real fissure in his heart. Ready to see his child again, he’s preparing and planning a future for CCH that he won’t get to witness.
But when Fisher’s application to be removed from the heart transplant list comes across Silver’s desk, her next mission is clear: convince him life is worth the fight. But she never expects that the struggle to rescue his heart might just save her own.
A Heart for the Holidays finds Silver Morgenstern and Fisher Tibbs at a crossroads in their lives. Silver finds herself in a job she isn’t truly happy with. Fisher finds himself in essence, giving up on life and preparing to die. The two meet when Silver who manages the National Organ Transplant list regionally for Prairie Wind Medical Center, tries to convince Fisher to not take his name off the transplant list. The problem is Silver doesn’t tell Fisher who she is. They ultimately strike up a friendship and become more important to each other than they could ever dream of.
While I liked both characters, I had a little trouble with Silver crossing the fine line of being a medical professional and being a friend/lover. Because of that, my feelings for the story are a little conflicted. The story was more than enjoyable, but I had some trouble with Silver’s deceit and the way she handled certain things.
A Heart for the Holidays is a touching story. It’s a sad, sweet, clean romance. Silver and Fisher both have best friends who happen to know each other. That’s a story I really want to read.
