All he wants for Christmas…
…is her!
Christmas is supposed to be the most magical time of the year. But for single dad and doctor Carter Jacobs, it only holds painful memories. He definitely isn’t looking for romance. Until Carter meets hardworking Dr. Liz Poole. She offers a safe harbor and the promise of a future Carter thought lost to him… As Christmas approaches, might Carter’s happily-ever-after be just around the corner?
From Harlequin Medical: Life and love in the world of modern medicine.Susan Carlisle’s The Single Dad’s Holiday Wish is “A cute meet. Damsel in distress. Just like in the romances.” story. Internist Carter Jacobs and ENT Liz Poole meet during a volunteer dinner. Later that night, Carter drives Liz home after her car doesn’t start. Neither are looking for love, but somewhere along the way, love finds them just the same.
Carter is a single father to his seven-year-old son Ryan. After the dissolution of his marriage, he buys his grandparents’ house and moves back to his hometown of Mooresville, Alabama. Carter has a distant relationship with his family because his parents and brother seem to have fulfilling lives, with happy marriages. Carter feels bad about his marriage ending and thinks he’s a disappointment to his family. Liz believes she’s happy enough. However, she has lived in her sister’s shadow all her life and lives her life the way her sister thinks she should.
Carter and Liz are opposites in many ways, but at the same time are a lot alike. I really liked the moments of conflict, where they each spoke the truth and challenged the other. The chemistry between them was good. The Single Dad’s Holiday Wish is a slow burn romance. For me, in the beginning, the story put off a Harlequin Love Inspired vibe. However, this is not a sweet, closed-door romance. You’re invited into the bedroom, but things are not overly detailed.
