No one survives their meeting with the Angel of Death—except for me.
After being accused of rallying citizens to revolt against him and breaking the rules of engagement with demons to save my best friend—guilty as charged on both accounts—the Angel of Death demands to personally oversee my sentencing in his obsidian castle of demons and death.
I’m done for. This is the end. But my death won’t be in vain—I’ll die a martyr to the Paladins Order’s cause, and I’ll rescue my best friend at the same time. She’ll be safe and the paladins will pick a new leader. They’ll thrive and continue the fight.
Or so I think. When judgment day arrives and I’m knelt before the Angel of Death, with his onyx eyes, his ebony hair, and his seductively imposing stature, my soul doesn’t leave me.
It soars.
Because when I dare to look the Angel of Death in the eyes, everything changes. And what unfolds in my anger and vengeance’s stead is a thread of events I never could have foreseen.
I survived my meeting with the Angel of Death. But can I survive his love?
OATH-BREAKER is the first of a M/F paranormal demon romance duology full of steamy goodness.
When I first started writing Oath-Breaker, I realized that its world was not entirely ours. I was afraid to go too far into fantasy, though, so I set Oath-Breaker about 300 years after an invasion of celestials and demons who came to our world accidentally from theirs. Stuck on this side of the Veil, the celestials and demons decided to make our world more like theirs. This resulted in huge change and magical terraforming which, most notably in Oath-Breaker, turned New York City and the surrounding area into a new country: Serenia. Inside Serenia is Alastia, what once was New York City, and is now home of the demon king the Angel of Death. This has allowed for some really fun worldbuilding and aesthetics!
In this new world, there are demon kings and queens who rule over the remade Earth, and sections of humanlands which remained free from the celestial-demon war. Some of those human cities and strongholds worship celestials, or at least respect and appease them, and have been granted power to fight the demons.
One such deal was made when the Light, a celestial, created paladins. Ayla, the main character of Oath-Breaker, is one of those paladins who fight demons who break the rules of engagement that Lightport and the other surrounding human cities and strongholds have brokered with Alastia, the Angel of Death’s domain.
One other cool aspect is that because this invasion happened about 300 years ago, there have been generations that have been allowed to intermingle. This has created celestial-kin and demon-kin, who are human hybrids.
All of this sets the scene for Oath-Breaker, when Ayla’s easy world of fighting demons and protecting her paladins is upended and changed forever. Because of all of these factions, readers can expect lots of action alongside the sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance and maybe a dash of political intrigue, too!
