Maybe this Christmas she’ll unwrap what she really wants…

Angela Miles is a hardworking mom, doing everything she can to make sure her family traditions endure with her twelve-year-old son, David. Before her husband passed, choosing the Christmas tree on the first day of December and creating magazine-worthy decorations meant the world to them, and she can’t let these memories disappear. But this year, she’s also in the midst of planning a blowout gala for her nonprofit, Acts of Faith, and David is more into Chicago Bulls games with his friends than hanging out with her.

Dr. Shawn Atkins is a pediatric surgeon devoted to staying the best in his field. But when an opportunity arises to help Angela with the gala, he jumps at the chance to be her knight in shining armor. Angela has always challenged him to up his game, so he's happy to help her out. What he’s not prepared for is how that decision turns his whole world upside down.

This Christmas, will new experiences open the door to a chance at love that neither of them is expecting?
Ieshia Wiedlin is a new to me author and Maybe this Christmas is the second book in her Romancing the Doctors series. This is a standalone read, however, I feel as though I might have missed something related to the characters since I didn't read the first book, There You Are, though I can’t be certain.

Angela Miles is the founder of Acts of Faith, a non-profit that helps to financially support families of children who can’t afford medical procedures. Angela is a widow and mother to David, her 12-year-old son. She’s also the best friend of Amina Wright, the heroine from There You Are. Shawn Atkins is a pediatric surgeon at one of the largest children’s hospitals in Chicago and a good friend of Nathan Moore, Amina’s love interest.

Maybe this Christmas starts off with the wedding of Amina and Nate, with Angela, Shawn, and David all serving as part of the wedding party. The story finds Angela planning a gala, hoping to raise a lot of money for her non-profit. Shawn is made Angela’s hospital contact and the two end up working together.

On the personal front, Angela is trying really hard to keep the spirit and memory of her husband Kevin, who passed away seven years ago, alive and strong. Whether she’s doing this for herself or David remains to be seen. When Angela needs help in order to complete some Christmas-related tasks and stay on schedule, she turns to Shawn for help.

I really liked all the characters in this story. Shawn’s a hugger and he had me at the first hug he gave. David is wise and more mature than his age. Angela is evolving. I know that might sound bad, but I don’t mean it to be. She isn’t a single mother/widow who has closed herself off to life and the possibility of falling in love again. She takes one day at a time and is selfless. She has a tremendous amount of compassion and thinks of others before herself.

Maybe this Christmas really put me in the Christmas mindset. I wish the story was a little longer. An epilogue would have been great, in order to see how all the characters are after “the end”. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from Ieshia, starting with going back and reading There You Are.
