Book Review ~ THE STOLEN THRONE by Abigail Owen

The Stolen Throne (Dominion, #2)
by: Abigail Owen
Series: Dominion
Genre: Dark YA/NA Epic Fantasy
Release Date: May 2, 2023
Publisher: Entangled Teen

My twin sister is the true queen of Aryd. She survives, hiding and clinging to life in the desert, while I reign as the false queen alongside the monstrous King Eidolon. There’s only one escape from this gilded prison: Reven. My Shadowraith. My heart. Only the shadows that he struggles to control are growing more sinister, more powerful.

It’s just a matter of time before they turn on him…and on me.

Even escape doesn't mean true freedom, though, when we're still on the run from Eidolon’s unstoppable armies. And when we discover there’s a traitor among us, I have no choice…I must become the queen I was never meant to be.

Because as one evil hunts me, the other loves me more than himself.

And my fate lies with both.

First and foremost, The Stolen Throne is NOT a standalone read. You are going to need to read the first book, The Liar's Crown to understand what’s happening and who all the characters are.

The Stolen Throne picks up several months, after the events of The Liar’s Crown. Meren, the second born, the twin who has always been looked at as despicable is living with King Eidolon, pretending to be her sister, Tabra, who is actually married to the king. As Meren awaits for her Shadowraith, Reven, to return and rescue her, she plays the part of the dutiful wife, the wife Eidolon thinks he has control over. Never realizing that though her sister is away from Eidolon, she is anything but safe.

I thought The Liar’s Crown was crazy insane. But Abigail Owen upped everything in this book. Deceit is the theme in this cat-and-mouse chess game, where alliances are formed and broken. Where a person you once trusted is a heartbeat away from ending your life. Prepare yourself for twists and turns. All might seem lost…But is it?

The Stolen Throne was at times an intense, page-turning read. Abigail gave a history on the dominions via a surprising character. I loved every moment of this book. The Shadow’s Rule, the third and final book can’t get here soon enough. I’m expecting a magnitude of twists, turns, and surprises.

Multi-award-winning author, Abigail Owen, writes adult paranormal romance & upper YA fantasy romance. She loves plots that move hot and fast, feisty heroines with sass, heroes with heart, a dash of snark, and oodles of HEAs! Other titles include wife, mother, Star Wars geek, ex-competitive skydiver, spreadsheet lover, eMBA, organizational guru, Texan, Aggie, and chocoholic.

Abigail attempted to find a practical career related to her favorite pastime by earning a degree in English Rhetoric (Technical Writing) and an MBA. However, she swiftly discovered that writing without imagination is not nearly as fun as writing with it.

Abigail currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her own swoon-worthy hero, their angelic (mostly) kids, who are growing up way too fast, and 2 adorable fur babies.
