WILL HER GAMBLE PAY OFF?

The last place straitlaced Dr. Eva Gordon expects to call home is Las Vegas. But when her famous fiancĂ© abruptly ends their engagement, Eva’s desperate to escape her small town and its gossipmongers. Yet, whilst Fremont General provides a clean slate, Dr. Clark Malone makes her history impossible to forget… Because Eva’s new colleague was once her best friend, before an evening of passion changed everything. Could her fresh start lead to their second chance?

I know Denise N. Wheatley as being a contemporary romance author, who also writes romantic suspense/mystery. I can’t say I’m a mega fan since I’ve only read two of her previous romances. But I’m enough of a fan to know without a doubt that I had to read ER Doc’s Las Vegas Reunion, her first medical romance with Harlequin Medical Romance.

Not to throw shade at other medical romance authors I’ve read, but Denise took the word “medical” seriously and to heart. About 70-75% of the book takes place inside the hospital. There are scenes upon scenes of medical procedures being ordered or done that I found very refreshing.

ER Doc’s Las Vegas Reunion is a second-chance romance featuring two doctors who met in medical school, became the best of friends, had an explosive night together, and then drifted apart after not agreeing on how their relationship should move forward. Now years later, Dr. Eva Gordon accepts a three-month temporary job as an ER doctor in Vegas to get away from her family and the gossip following her breakup with her senate candidate fiance. Dr. Clark Malone is living his dream. He’s an ER doctor at Fremont General Hospital, where the fast pace means no two days are the same, and he has no shortage of women to occupy his non-working hours. Clark’s good morning goes downhill when he’s introduced to the new ER doctor he’ll be working with Eva, who happens to be the last woman to break his heart and ruin him for other women. As Eva and Clark navigate working in the ER together, they re-establish their old friendship and agree to be friends with benefits, thinking they can keep their hearts and feelings under lock and key.

I loved Eva and Clark and the lies they told themselves. From the moment they saw each other again, Cupid’s arrows pierced their hearts. I don’t think I have ever read a hotter swoon-worthy first kiss. If you were to blend a Harlequin Medical Romance and Harlequin Desire, the result would be ER Doc’s Las Vegas Reunion with a little more spice added. I’m looking forward to Denise’s next Harlequin Medical Romance. If that story happens to be about Fremont General’s director of emergency medicine, Leo Graham and ER nurse Brandi Bennett, all the better.

I am a lover of romance, happy endings and the art of storytelling. My first novel, I WISH I NEVER MET YOU, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2004. I have since traditionally published over twenty novels and novellas, including contemporary, suspense and medical romances. I strive to create characters who are strong, colorful and relatable, and tell entertaining stories that embody matters of the heart.

I am currently writing for Harlequin Intrigue, Harlequin Medical Romance and Tule Publishing. Two of my holiday novels, LOVE AT THE ICICLE CAFE and CHRISTMAS IN FULL BLOOM, have been optioned for film. Fun fact: I've also written several steamy novels and novellas for eXtasy Books.

I received a B.A. in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago, the city where I was born and raised. When I'm not sitting behind my computer, you can find me in a movie theater, at home reading a romance novel, watching true crime television or chatting on social media. Speaking of social media…
