Meet the characters from Sunrise Interrupted
Alexandra Martel has done very well for herself in the Canadian entertainment industry. However she wants to make it in Hollywood, and now starring in the big-budget film, Retribution, her dream just may come true. As she enters her thirties she begins to feel the pressure of now or never. She also wants to meet the man of her dreams, as her two sisters have done (Ginger and Shane in Sudden Turn, and Naomi and Hayden in Barlowe Pride) and have children, again like her two sisters. So she’s torn, and feeling she will soon have to choose between career and family.
Dr. Beau Remington grew up on a horse ranch, and once he became a veterinarian, started his own ranch. Beau has had a few serious relationships, but does not necessarily feel the need to marry and procreate … until he meets Alexandra. A man of the land, he doesn’t even own a television set and has only a passing interest in the entertainment industry. Nevertheless he’s under contract as an emergency and critical care specialist on the set of Retribution for when they use animals in the film. When he first lays eyes on the stunningly beautiful actress, he is immediately thrust into the deep end.
James Langford is a Hollywood heartthrob, a superstar bad boy with a string of failed marriages and an insatiable appetite for women. He sets his sights on Alexandra, but she’s not feeling the attraction at all. That doesn’t stop James from pursuing her though, or taking uncalled for liberties during their kissing scenes. It was his influence with award-winning director, Nigel Garretson, that got her the part of his wife in Retribution, so he feels she owes him a favour.
Dr. Jennifer Tuttle is a veterinarian at Beau’s clinic who is hopelessly in love with her boss. Although Beau does not reciprocate, she believes it’s serendipity that they would end up working together. So she takes matters into her own hands to overcome his reluctance by showing up at his house late one night with a bottle of wine. Beau definitely does not want to lose the gifted young vet from his practice.
The stalker follows Alexandra from Toronto, where she makes her home, to the remote movie location on Belleisle Bay in rural New Brunswick, determined to abduct her. His first foray into crime, he is nervous and ill prepared as it turns out, but he still manages to snatch her early one morning. By anyone’s estimation of this crime, what he does is unthinkable.
Alexandra Martel studied her reflection in the mirror, leaning in for a closer look. She’d consistently received good reviews for her acting ability, but in show business it was also appearance. Everyone knew that. At thirty-one she was hardly over the hill, but the camera came at you with uncompromising scrutiny. That reminded her, she had an appointment at her favourite spa today for an anti-aging facial. She was fortunate to have been blessed with a flawless complexion, but it still had to be maintained as time continued its relentless march forward. Workouts at the gym and a healthy lifestyle were also part of her daily regimen.
She had carved out a decent career for herself in Canada but was recently cast in the coveted role of Sari Patton in Retribution, a US feature film set for production in her home province of New Brunswick. It would be a challenging role, not only because of its demanding physicality, but also considering the director’s reputation for being nearly impossible to please. Even so, Nigel Garretson had a long string of directorial successes. Her leading man was James Langford, an award-winning American actor who, after Retribution, was off to star in Twice Dead of the Sullivan At Large franchise based on the bestselling novels of the same name. A deadly handsome bad boy whose reputation preceded him, she’d been warned she’d have her hands full with him.
She sighed. She’d come a long way from high school musicals, but the big prize south of the border remained as elusive as ever, even after twelve long years in the business. Her agent, in whom she placed her utmost confidence, had been unable so far to make any significant inroads in Tinsel Town, save for a two-liner in an American soap opera and a brief appearance on a failing sitcom. Retribution could be her breakout role, the perfect opportunity to prove she was more than just another pretty face. She was also looking forward to being back in New Brunswick.

DeleteIf you could trade places with any of your characters for a day, who would it be be and why?
ReplyDeleteGreat question, Tracie! I think I would trade places with Beau (even though I'm not a vet) because I'd get to make important decisions about the welfare of animals. All in all, I think he has a pretty cool lifestyle considering his ranch and horses. Did my answer surprise you? Which character do you identify with the most?
