Starting over and starting a whole lotta trouble...

Meredith Anderson left her difficult past behind to create a new life for herself in Tall Pines-where she can be the independent, confident woman she always dreamed of being. Now she's a partner in her sister's wedding planning business, helping brides realize their happily-ever-afters...even as she promises herself to never fall in love.

Meredith's sweetness and vulnerability brings out the protective side of rancher Gage Mackenzie-even though their worlds are miles apart. All it takes is one night for desire to take hold of them both, a sizzling encounter that can only lead to the promise of more. But Meredith isn't looking for more, and even if she was, Gage is set to leave Tall Pines behind him...

REVIEW
Today Nicola and I teamed up to bring you a joint review of Rescued by the Rancher.  Enjoy.

~The Hero~

Kim: Okay, I will admit it.... I’m in love with Gage Mackenzie.  I fell for him in The Rancher's Second Chance.  Everytime the man says “darlin'”, I melt.

Nic: I second that.  When Victoria James releases a book, the clouds part, the heavens sing and rainbows fill the sky.  Well, perhaps that's an exaggeration, but it makes me happy as I know I'm going to find a couple to love.  And I did.

Kim: That's about how I felt!

~Emotion and Character Traits~

Nic: It's been quite a while since I read The Rancher's Second Chance, so I did a skim read to remind myself of a couple of things (not Cole, he's ingrained in my mind forever).  I expected emotion this time around, but I didn't expect it to be quite as deep-rooted as it was.  I hurt for both Meredith and Gage, but it was balanced by so many uplifting and romantic moments.

Kim: I went into reading Rescued by the Rancher already knowing that I was going to fall deeper in love with Gage.  I wasn’t expecting to want to scream and kick on the characters behalf though.  I should have known I was going to get an emotional read, but I wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming heartache and anger I felt.  Just when I wanted to roll myself into a ball and cry, I became amazed by Meredith’s courage and strength.

Nic: I was impressed by how she went from someone who arrived at Tall Pines at her lowest point and, despite her vulnerabilities, onto becoming a strong, independent lady.  Gage is a protector; strong, sexy and gentle, he's a complete sweetheart, but I didn't expect him to have the secrets he did.  Kim, did Victoria make you cry again?  I have a confession to make...I didn't this time.

Kim: Seriously, you didn't?  I cried.  I thought I was going to be strong and not shed any tears, but then there was the secret and the fallout from it.

~Author and writing style~

Kim: Victoria James continues to be at the top of my list of must-read authors. As with all her stories, she writes characters who are likeable, who have faults, have experienced tragedy, and have the ability to fight for a better life for themselves, one they can only dream of having.

Nic: She has a gift of creating a couple to fall in love with with a strong, emotive writing style containing humour and with secondary characters who bring a real family feel and valuable content to the story.  I loved seeing how Cole and Mel were getting on, well if I'm truthful I loved getting another little fix of Cole, but I also did a happy dance that's there's the possibility of more visits to Tall Pines.

Kim: Definitely.  Rescued by the Rancher is full of surprises and I hope we will see all the new characters we've been introduced to in future books.

Nic: Nathan...liking him already.

Kim: Definitely liking Nathan.  I'm pretty sure we haven't heard the last of Nathan and Tall Pines.

~Rating~

Nic: So, what's your rating?

Kim: Five.  When a book can touch me the way this one did, it deserves the 5 stars.  It's one of those books I'm going to remember.

Nic: Mine's a four.  I loved it, but I have to be honest and say it's not my favourite of Victoria's books.  It's a fine addition though.

Kim: If you're a fan of Victoria James, you won't be disappointed. And if you're not, you really should be.  We make no secret we love her and can't wait for her next book.
