Review ~ VANILLA VIXEN by Colleen Charles

Vanilla Vixen (Baked Series, #2)
by: Colleen Charles
Series: Baked
Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance
Release Date: January 13, 2016

Ally

The first time I saw Gabe in my sensual cupcake bakery, I had no idea who he was. All I knew was chiseled perfection like him could never really want a girl like me. That didn't stop me from craving and lusting after everything I could never have. Success.
And I was trapped in a twisted frenemy relationship with my douche bag ex fiancee. I never would have dreamed who Gabe really was, what he wanted and why he wanted it.

Gabe

My f*cked up family taught me a lot. Take rather than give. Anything. Everything.
Ally made me feel clean. Whole. I'd do anything to have her and even more to keep her. In spite of my past but more importantly ... because of it.
I took her tenuous control and worshiped her killer curves. I never suspected she'd steal my heart.
REVIEW
Vanilla Vixen picks up immediately where Red Velvet ends.  But don’t look for the blurb to give you any heads up.  For whatever reason, the author has chosen to use the same blurb from Red Velvet for all the books in the series.

Ally continues to have her hot affair with dirty talking Gabe, but is warned at every turn to stay away from him.  Gabe doesn’t help his cause by continuing to keep secrets from Ally and not reveal who he really is and what’s actually going on with his life.

Like Red Velvet, Vanilla Vixen is told in first person from the point of view of Ally. But readers do get a treat in having one or two chapters told from the point of view of Gabe.  We’re able to get a sense of Gabe’s struggle with trying to be his own man while also trying to do what’s right for his family.

Ally’s ex continues to pressure her and the reason for their break up is revealed, much to her horror.  She finally has had enough and knows that the animosity between her ex Matthew and Gabe runs deeper than just her.  In a push for answers, the one she gets is the last one she expects.

Vanilla Vixen was the least liked book of the series for me.  I honestly got tired of the back and forth between Ally and Gabe.  They have a strong sexual connection and that’s what keeps her allowing him back into her life.  In essence, they become each other’s drug.  Ally has a belief that Gabe is a good person but it takes a really long time for her to realize that she deserves more out of a relationship than what he is willing to offer.

While I felt a total and complete disconnect with this book, I’m extremely intrigued to find out what happens next.
