Reese Hudson meant to destroy mementos from her last failed relationship, not burn down an outhouse and incur the wrath of a sexy park ranger. When the judge rejects her offer to pay for the structure and sentences her to rebuild it—with the hot ranger supervising—she embraces the challenge to take control of her life.
Park ranger Wade Baker wants nothing to do with the rich city girl, no matter how tempting he finds her lush curves. She’s too much like his ex-fiancée, and if he’s learned anything, it’s that women like Reese don’t fit into his world. And he sure as hell wants no part of her big city life.
Reese may not know a hammer from a screwdriver, but she’s working hard to prove she’s not just some pampered princess to be toyed with. And damn it if Wade doesn’t admire her tenacious spirit. If only they got along half as well outside the bedroom as they do in it, there might be a chance for them after all…
Hi Jennie. Welcome to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. How are you?
I’m doing great! Thanks for having me on your blog. I love connecting with new readers.
Romancing the Ranger is your first book in your Cotton Creek Romance series. Tell me a little about it.
It’s a romantic comedy about a city girl, who meets a hunky park ranger when she accidentally burns down a structure in his state park and is required to rebuild it under the ranger’s supervision.
“Reese Hudson meant to destroy mementos from her last failed relationship, not burn down an outhouse and incur the wrath of a sexy park ranger. What do you love about Reese Hudson and Wade Baker?
I love the way Reese approaches things with a positive attitude. She’s fresh out of this controlling relationship and ready to try something new. She is a total fish out of water in this small town trying to rebuild an outhouse and has no idea what she’s doing, but she’s doing it in style. She’s really fun and sweet and isn’t anything like Wade first imagines her to be.
I have a total crush on Wade. I love the way he’s sweet to his grandmother and how he is so good to Reese’s dog, Bagel. He is a total country boy that wears cowboy boots and takes Reese night fishing and country dancing. He introduces her to new things and even though he sometimes gets stuck in his own issues, he figures things out and is very supportive of Reese and her dreams.
Gotta love a guy, who did what he did for Bagel. I also loved the way Reese looked at things. Why do you think they’re perfect for each other?
I think Wade needs Reese’s fun and positive spirit in his life. She makes him laugh and is good for him. Reese needs Wade because he allows her to be independent and make decisions in her own life. They have fun together, as well as spend some pretty steamy time together between the sheets. Plus, come on, he’s a totally hot sexy country boy that knows how to wear a tool belt and swing a hammer and introduces her to the more wild side of nature.
What are some fun facts about Romancing the Ranger?
One fun fact is that my own hero, my husband of almost 27 years was a park ranger and still works in parks, so that makes this story really special to my heart. A little secret about the book is that when I was submitting to Entangled, they said they wanted heroines that were a cross between Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson for their new Lovestruck line of romantic comedies, so I named my character Reese Hudson and patterned her a little after both women.
Oh my gosh!!! I love that! What’s your favorite part of a romance to write? (The beginning, the first meeting, first kiss, getting to know each other, first love scene, big fight, HEA or something else?)
I love the meet-cute—that first time that they meet and creating the scene that first puts them together. I also love the first kiss scene- writing that perfect moment when they kiss for the first time and trying to make it as swoony as possible.
The Lovestruck imprint is known to have laughable moments in their books. Can you tell me about one of the laughable moments in Romancing the Ranger and possibly what inspired that moment?
I get a lot of comments about how people love the topless fishing scene in the book. Wade takes Reese night fishing and it turns into a funny skinny-dipping, making out, and falling out of the boat scene that involves fighting off a snake and actually catching a fish. I had a lot of fun with that scene. This is the first time the two of them get to just have fun with each other and it’s funny and surprisingly sweet, sexy and romantic all at the same time.
Jennie, I’m looking forward to reading the book. I’ve been told I’m going to love it. Thank you so much for joining me today.
