Ginny Colburn can’t believe she’s been dumped by her wedding date. And everybody knows it.
So when a cute, younger man serving champagne to the guests flirts with her, she decides to really give the guests something to talk about and flirts back. But the incredible, rebound, one-night stand gives her more than great memories. A few weeks later she’s holding a positive pregnancy test.
Josh Anderson finally has his degree and is ready to make his mark on the world, but then he finds out he’s going to be a father. He’s too young to settle down and Lakeside is way too small for his big dreams. Ginny doesn’t expect him to stick around anyway and makes it clear she’s ready to be a single mom, but Josh won’t run away from his responsibilities.
But just as they’re starting to think maybe what they have is real, Josh gets a job offer he can’t refuse. Surely Ginny can’t follow a guy half her age across the country just because they’re having a baby together… Can she?
The DJ slid them into yet another slow song. Ginny rested her head on Josh’s shoulder and she drew in a deep breath, taking in the scent of grass and sunshine. And Josh. The cooling evening breeze rustled her hair away from her face. He moved against her, and her body started to come alive, buzzing with arousal. He was so tempting.
They were rocking back and forth now, their feet barely moving, their bodies brushing against each other. Ginny leaned back far enough to look him in the eye. God, he was so good-looking. Tempting full lips. Dark scruff on a strong jaw, cut cheekbones, and bright eyes with no crinkles at the corners.
She sighed. “You’re too young for me.”
Josh brushed his pelvis against hers, and she couldn’t mistake his erection pressed against her hip. Her sex quivered. His lips tickled her ear as he whispered, “No such thing as too young. Or too old.”
She shivered from his lips and her hips, and the instinctive response to his arousal that began to pulse between her legs. “You’re tempting.” The myriad twinkle lights strung around the ceiling lit up his face, and his eyes sparked as they locked on hers. Her mouth dried, and her tongue automatically darted out to moisten her lips. “So very tempting.”
“So are you.” He dropped a kiss to her forehead. “Come here.”
Josh slid his hand in hers, tugged her through the patio door, and out into the gathering darkness surrounding the building. He didn’t say a word until they were beyond hearing distance of the people on the patio. Then he turned to her in the shadows of an old maple tree.
He cupped her face, and the nearly full moon gave her enough light to see that his easygoing expression had disappeared, leaving an intense one instead. “I know we would enjoy each other. A lot.” His gaze dropped to her mouth. “We have all night.”
She drew in a breath, then leaned in.
He kissed her, softly sipping from her lips. He lifted his mouth, still cradling her face in his hands. “You’re so sweet.”
She licked her lips, savoring his taste. Craving more. More of his touches. More of his taste. He was talking about sex. She was thinking about it, too. All night.
Why was she hesitating? He was right. What did age matter? They were probably only a few years apart anyway. Hadn’t she decided she wasn’t waiting for a man to make her happy? She wasn’t looking for a commitment either. She was going to find her own happiness.
There was a wild, unexpected attraction between them, and one night to indulge it was a wonderful idea. Right now, one night with Josh would make her happy. She could wipe Sam from her mind once and for all, but…
“It might turn out to be rebound sex. That wouldn’t be fair to you.”
He grinned, dropping his hands from her face to her hips. “Are you kidding? Go ahead. Use me to wipe that man right out of your head.”
She laughed. Joyful. Happy? Maybe there was something to be said for sex with a younger man. He made her feel hotter than she had in years. And weren’t young guys supposed to have better staying power? Her face grew warm. Was she actually considering this?
Ginny slid her arms around his waist and tugged him close. They were away from the lights of the building now, the moon hidden behind a cloud. She pressed up against his erection. The words flew out of her mouth before she could think about it any further. “Tonight. One night only. And we enjoy the hell out of each other.”
